It is official – KonoSuba – God's Blessing On This Wonderful World!, or KonoSuba is getting a third season. This was confirmed on May 28, during the KonoSuba Channel New Information Reveal Quest Special live stream.

It was also revealed that the prequel novels – the KonoSubaGifting this Wonderful World with Explosions! series that follows Megumin prior to the events of the main series will also be getting a television anime adaptation. Fans will be thrilled with the news, especially considering how long it has been since there was any new communication regarding the series' future.

The live stream event also revealed some of the staff members who will be involved in the production of KonoSuba's third season. There are a few returnees, like the seasoned main series director, Takaomi Kanasaki, who will be back in that role, while Yujiro Abe, who has credits on the extremely popular Kaguya-sama: Love is War, Megalo Box and Great Pretender, will be the director of KonoSuba's third season as well as the Megumin spin-off. Abe will have supervision from Kanasaki. Production of this season will be the undertaken by Studio Drive, which will also be taking care of the production of the upcoming second season of To Your Eternity. Other staff members returning for the production of KonoSuba's third season include Koichi Kikuta; the character designer in all previous animated KonoSuba productions.

Main series cast members will be returning for the third season, while Rie Takahashi and Aki Toyosaki will also be returning as Megumin and Yunyun in the spin-off series. KonoSuba: Gifting This Wonderful World With Explosions! is set a full year prior to Kazuma and Aqua's arrival. The official KonoSuba Twitter account shared the first set of visuals for the new additions to the series, heightening fan anticipation for more information. While release dates are not yet confirmed, the communications from official channels have answered the prayers of fans eager to continue the adventure with Kazuma and his party. The confirmation of the third season comes almost a full year after the official Twitter account's cryptic announcement that the production of a new KonoSuba animated project had been decided, back in July 2021.

KonoSuba is a comedy series that follows Kazuma Sato, a teenage boy who dies in a traffic accident and is granted a second chance at life by the goddess known as Aqua. The goddess grants Kazuma permission to reincarnate in an alternate world with a single item of his choosing. When Kazuma unexpectedly selects the Goddess Aqua herself, a wacky adventure filled with magic, fantasy and an eventual confrontation with the Demon King awaits them.

The first season of KonoSuba was released during Winter 2016, and adapted the first two volumes of the novel series by Natsume Akatsuki and Kurone Mishima. Since then, a second season aired a year later in Winter 2017; adapting the third and fourth volumes of the novel, with a movie adaptation of the novel series' fifth volume, titled KonoSuba – God's Blessing On This Wonderful World! – Legend of Crimson being released in August 2019.
