The following contains spoilers for Episode 3 of KonoSuba Season 3, "A Re-education for This Bright Little Girl!," now streaming on Crunchyroll.

The latest episode of KonoSuba Season 3 sees Kazuma taken from the familiar environs of Axel to the royal capital, where he is surrounded by decadence and luxury at every turn. While he is initially bewildered by the sudden change in circumstances, he soon lets himself get carried away, in true Kazuma fashion. Naturally, it doesn't take long for him to start taking this luxury for granted, and Kazuma starts scheming to stay at the castle for as long as possible.

The princess storyline continues to generate lots of laughs and tons of fun, and it seems like even more hilarity is on the way. The added focus gives a lot of character to Princess Iris, and while it's not certain how much of a role she'll have in future stories, she's certainly adding a lot to the current arc.

KonoSuba S3 E3 Kazuma's Welcome

Though his trip to the royal capital was unwilling, Kazuma soon accepts his current predicament, telling Princess Iris all sorts of raunchy stories about Darkness, to Claire's chagrin. Though he is initially reluctant, a discussion with the princess's retainer Rain ends up with him sympathizing with her. Iris, meanwhile, is all too happy to chat with Kazuma and hear all the crazy stories he has to tell about Darkness.

As the subject moves to Kazuma's life in Japan, Iris is enthralled by the concept of things like schools and festivals. Kazuma suggests opening a school itself, but when a Devil King alert occurs, Iris admits that the current situation doesn't allow her to do things like that. The possible danger of the Devil King's Army leads Iris to suggest that Kazuma head home now, an offer Kazuma takes. However, before he can leave, Iris admits that she thinks of him as an older brother, something that ends up piquing his interest. Kazuma immediately decides to stay at the castle, purely so he can play the role of the big brother for Iris.

Almost immediately, Kazuma gets accustomed to everyday life at the royal palace, with his own butler and maid to tend to his every need. His reverie is immediately broken when he accidentally greets Iris with his pants off, leading to an embarrassing moment that ends with Iris choosing to call him Elder Brother instead of Big Brother. Nevertheless, his days at the palace pass fairly peacefully, with his only real duty to goof off with the princess whenever she wants to play with him. While Kazuma is mostly using this situation to enjoy the luxurious life of royalty, he also knows he is helping the lonely Princess Iris find a little joy in her life packed full with studies and the endless expectations of royalty.

Kazuma spends a full week at the royal palace, paying no attention to his former life as an adventurer. This comes back to bite him when his party arrive, right in the middle of him planning to harass the maid who comes to change his bedsheets. After being embarrassed for a moment, Kazuma gets into a fight with Darkness and the others, who clearly want him to come back to Axel so they can continue their lives as adventurers. Iris soon arrives, and Darkness asks her to let Kazuma return home. Despite Kazuma praying for Iris to refuse, Iris accepts Darkness's request and plans to hold a going-away banquet for him.

The banquet begins, and Aqua and Megumin are helping themselves to all the lavish food available to them. Meanwhile, Darkness finds herself surrounded by nobles hoping to court her. Their attempts are pushed aside by Lord Alderp, who claims the only man worthy of marrying Darkness is Prince Jatice, Iris's older brother. Kazuma notices Darkness is uncomfortable with marriage talk and decides to help her out, albeit embarrassing her in the process.

Kazuma ends up outside while the party continues. Iris comes out to talk with him for a bit, and she tells him that the reason she likes him is that he doesn't put her on a pedestal like others do. As they talk, Kazuma begins to regret having to leave, and starts thinking about ways to delay leaving as Iris starts talking about being an adventurer herself. The subject soon turns to news about a thief who is stealing from nobles and donating to orphanages, and Kazuma immediately sees a chance. He runs back into the banquet hall and declares that he will catch the thief, to the cheers of the nobles worried about having their things stolen. Kazuma believes he's found a way to stay in the capital, but Claire immediately has him assigned to the residences of those most likely to be stolen from, with the first being Lord Alderp himself. Neither he nor Kazuma is happy about the situation, setting up an enticing situation for the next episode.
