The following contains spoilers for KonoSuba Season 3 Episode 2, "A Smile for This Dour Girl!," now streaming on Crunchyroll.

The second episode of the KonoSuba is just as funny as the last, establishing that the hilarious comedy franchise has not lost its touch in any way. After a quick check-in with Wiz and Vanir, Kazuma and his party prepare to receive Princess Iris, one of the most important people in the land.

The dinner with the princess is just as hilarious as any KonoSuba fan would expect, as Kazuma, Aqua, and Megumin make the dinner a living nightmare for Darkness. Despite their lack of manners and general trouble-making, the party manages to make it through the dinner peacefully, only for the princess to cause even more trouble. Not much happens in this episode, but it is clearly setting up for even more hilarity down the line.

KonoSuba S3 E2 Kazuma's Lighters

The episode begins with Kazuma yet again with his head in the clouds due to the dinner invitation from the princess. Darkness, meanwhile, is still trying to get him to reconsider, because she knows that Kazuma knows nothing about basic manners and decorum. She goes as far as to wear a skimpy maid outfit for Kazuma in order to get him to dress properly for the occasion, but that is the best she can do.

In the meantime, before their dinner with the princess, Kazuma and the others head over to Wiz's shop in order to check on his ongoing deal with Vanir to sell products based on creations from his original world. The new product turns out to be a collection of oddly-designed lighters, which are an incredible invention for the medieval world that KonoSuba is set in. Though Wiz and the others are excited by the lighters, Aqua is unimpressed until she attempts to take a lighter for herself. Kazuma immediately rejects her, as she did not help in the development and forces her to drum up business if she wants a freebie. The lighters turn out to be surprisingly successful, and Vanir, in appreciation for Kazuma's help, offers him a black version of his signature mask.

The Princess Arrives

Making A Good First Impression

KonoSuba S3 E2 Fitting Dresses

The time for the meeting with the princess soon arrives as Kazuma and his party get ready at Darkness's home. While Kazuma is already dressed in a smart tuxedo, Aqua and Megumin get excited over how they'll introduce themselves to the princess. Their excitement is interrupted by a surprisingly demure Darkness, who takes them to get fitted for formal dresses. However, the dresses Darkness has in her wardrobe are a little too big, a fact that frustrates Megumin to no end. Eventually, the girls manage to get dressed, while Kazuma's head remains firmly in the clouds.

Eventually, they finally come face to face with the princess, Iris Stylish-Sword Belzerg. Darkness tries to take the lead to prevent the party from making a fool of themselves, but despite Aqua offering a fairly decent introduction, they end up going right back to their usual shenanigans. While Darkness attempts to wrangle Aqua and Megumin and keep them from embarrassing themselves, Kazuma remains entranced by the princess's cuteness - that is, until the princess's retainer, Claire, delivers a demand from her that Kazuma lower his eyes and begin telling stories of his adventures as quickly as possible. Disillusioned, Kazuma begins to start his own tantrum, but Aqua manages to save the day with a sand portrait.

A Surprisingly Tense Dinner

A Battle For Kazuma's Honor

KonoSuba S3 E2 Kazuma Using Steal

As the dinner begins, Kazuma begins telling the princess all about his adventures and battles against the Devil King's generals. She is easily enthralled by his stories, not aware that he has massively embellished and exaggerated his exploits. Through Claire, the princess asks Kazuma what he did before he became an adventurer, and Kazuma is once again forced to obfuscate his previous life as a shut-in to make it sound more impressive than it actually is. Kazuma's party, aware of the truth, are dumbfounded by how easily he lies, but the princess and her retainers remain impressed.

Eventually, the princess asks to see Kazuma's adventurer card. Kazuma is desperate to not let them see his card, especially when he has questionable skills on it. Darkness attempts to excuse him by explaining that he is of the weakest class, but this rouses the princess and Claire's suspicions. The princess now believes that Kazuma has lied, particularly on the point of his defeating Mitsurugi, who the princess clearly seems to favor. Megumin and Darkness end up coming to Kazuma's defense, with Darkness even asking that the princess apologize for calling Kazuma a liar. Kazuma, moved by his teammates' actions, decides to relent and show the princess how he defeated Mitsurugi, with Claire serving as his opponent. He attempts to use Steal to take Claire's sword, as he did with Mitsurugi, but accidentally steals her panties instead, ending the fight as an embarrassment once more. Despite the unruly ending to the conflict, the princess nevertheless apologizes to Kazuma, and hopes that he will tell her more of his adventures. Kazuma accepts her apology gracefully, and promises to tell her about his adventures next time.

The dinner over, the princess and her retainers prepare to leave via teleport magic. As everyone says their goodbyes, Iris suddenly grabs Kazuma just as the magic activates. After a flash of light, Kazuma suddenly finds himself in front of the capital. Having been brought far away by the princess's whims, Kazuma finds himself like a fish out of water in yet another strange place.
