Horror game fans have been waiting on Silent Hill news ever since Konami canceled Hideo Kojima's Silent Hills project. The years have gone by, and all fans have seen from Silent Hill is new merch and pachinko machines. However, rumors have been swirling the last couple of years that Konami is looking to bring the Silent Hill franchise back in a big way, and now some of those rumors have been validated.

It's now been confirmed that Bloober Team is working with Konami. Neither company revealed any games that they may be collaborating on together, but Bloober Team previously teased that it was working on an established horror IP with a "very famous gaming publisher." Many connected the dots when that comment was made months ago, and so while it's not outright confirmed that Bloober Team is making a Silent Hill game, it's hard to see the project being anything else.

The interesting thing about the Bloober Team and Konami collaboration is that it seemingly lends credibility to old leaks about the new Silent Hill game and what exactly it may entail. Of course, it could all just be a coincidence and while it's unlikely, it's always possible that Bloober Team is working on something else that's not Silent Hill-related, so fans should keep that in mind before getting their hopes up too high for a series revival.

Months ago, rumors started swirling that Bloober Team was working on a Silent Hill game, and that's all but confirmed by the company's newly-announced partnership with Konami. For those who are unfamiliar with Bloober Team, the studio is primarily known for making horror games, having released Layers of Fear, the Blair Witch video game adaptation, and most recently, the next-gen exclusive game The Medium.

For the most part, Bloober Team has specialized in first-person horror games, with the exception being The Medium. Unlike Bloober Team's previous games, The Medium is a third-person game that utilizes mostly fixed-camera angles. It plays more like an old-school survival-horror game from the 90s, in a similar vein as Silent Hill, but with various modern touches and quality of life improvements.

The Medium reviews were mostly positive at the time of its release, and it stands as one of the most well-received Bloober Team titles to date. However, not all of Bloober Team's games have exactly been critical darlings, with the Layers of Fear and Blair Witch games releasing to mixed reviews. This has some fans worried that Bloober Team may not be able to do Silent Hill justice, but those fans shouldn't get too concerned just yet.

Multiple Silent Hill Games in Development

Back when the rumors first started about Bloober Team making a Silent Hill game, other leakers claimed that there were multiple Silent Hill games in development. Rumors have persisted that Sony is actively working on a Silent Hill PS5 exclusive game with Konami, which was expected to be revealed last year. 2020 came and went with no new Silent Hill game announcement, but that doesn't mean that the game isn't in development.

Sony hasn't held many events lately where it would even showcase its exclusive games, instead focusing on specific titles through State of Plays solely dedicated to games like Horizon: Forbidden West and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. However, if the rumors are to be believed, that will be changing in the very near future. While Sony skipped E3 2021, rumors and leaks suggest that the company has an E3-equivalent presentation coming sooner rather than later.

Insiders have pointed to a new PlayStation State of Play happening on Thursday, July 8, though Sony still has yet to confirm its existence. Regardless, there is some evidence that Sony is indeed planning to host an event soon, even if it doesn't happen on July 8. This includes the ESRB leak of Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut, the domain registration for the leaked Ghost of Ikishima expansion, and comments made at Summer Game Fest.

During the Summer Game Fest kickoff event, fans were treated to the first look at Death Stranding: Director's Cut. A deeper dive into Death Stranding: Director's Cut and what exactly it will entail was promised to be happening within weeks, and it seems like a PlayStation State of Play would be the perfect time to do just that.

If a PlayStation State of Play does happen soon, it could very well be used to finally announce the long-rumored Silent Hill PS5 exclusive game. Alternatively, it's possible that the Silent Hill PS5 exclusive doesn't actually exist and the only game in development is the one that's rumored to be developed by Bloober Team, but that's doubtful. Unfortunately, all PlayStation fans can do is speculate until Sony, Konami, or any other studio that may be involved breaks the silence on their plans for the Silent Hill franchise.
