Hideo Kojima has made a name for himself in the gaming world for being enigmatic and communicating with his fans through cryptic messages. This was seen, for instance, with the marketing for Silent Hills, a game that was unfortunately never released. Kojima set up a fake studio and released a demo game called P.T. to announce Silent Hills, and P.T. went on to become an iconic piece of gaming history. Now though, a recent Tweet from Kojima suggests the creative is gearing up to reveal Kojima Productions' latest project

Many fans speculate that he will show off more about his upcoming game with Microsoft soon. Past leaks have suggested that the game is codenamed Overdose and that it is a horror game. While the theory makes sense, gamers should also keep in mind that Death Stranding 2 is also in development at Kojima Productions, and it could be the game that Kojima is planning to reveal.

What Is Overdose?

Kojima Death Stranding 2 and Overdose

At 2022's Xbox and Bethesda Showcase, Kojima made a surprise appearance, revealing that he had struck a deal with Microsoft to make an Xbox Cloud game. It appears that the game is a passion project for Kojima, and it is something he has been wanting to do for a while. The upcoming project will utilize Microsoft's cloud technology, and he claimed it is a "never-seen-before concept." There are several ways cloud technology could come into play, and Microsoft has already shown its amazing potential in gaming with Flight Simulator. It has been claimed that the upcoming game is a horror game called Overdose, and it will be playable in both first and third-person perspectives. It has also been claimed that it will feature Margaret Qualley, who played Mama in Death Stranding.

Will Gamers Get a Glimpse at Overdose Soon?

Kojima Overdose Leak

On 13 August, Kojima sent out a Tweet revealing that he was "tentatively finished editing" something, alongside a picture of some video files. As Kojima is known for editing his own trailers, fans have speculated that he is done creating a new trailer that will debut soon. The timing makes sense, as Gamescom 2022 is scheduled to begin on August 24, and it will run until August 28. Fans are convinced the theory is true because Geoff Keighley will be present, and Kojima and Keighley have a strong relationship, with events hosted by Keighley frequently featuring Kojima announcements.

Although it has been speculated that Kojima will announce Overdose, it is also possible that the auteur could reveal Death Stranding 2, which is more or less confirmed to be in development. When Overdose was announced, Kojima gave the impression that the game was still a while away, as opposed to Death Stranding 2 which, according to Norman Reedus, was a sure deal. It would make sense for Death Stranding's sequel to release first while the IP is still popular, and Kojima Production's attempt to incorporate new technology with Overdose will certainly extend the game's development time.

It is expected that Gamescom 2022 will bring plenty of noteworthy announcements and reveals, and already several studios have confirmed that they will be making an appearance. Microsoft, Ubisoft, Warner Bros, Sega, and 505 Games are just a few of the over 500 companies that are registered, which ensures that there will be something exciting for all kinds of gamers. Fans are hoping that Kojima will show up and that he will finally reveal a little more about what Kojima Productions is cooking up with Microsoft. While that would be nice, it is worth remembering that Death Stranding 2 could also be announced, but either way, Gamescom could be a good time for Kojima fans.
