The Troubled Development of the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake

Knights Of The Old Republic Burning Bright

The history of the alleged behind-the-scenes drama is extensive and goes back over a year. When the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake was announced, the developer leading the project was a company known as Aspyr. As work on the game continued, the company revealed what had been made so far to LucasFilm and Sony. The footage was allegedly poorly received by the latter which started the snowball effect that followed.

Soon after, the developer of the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake handed off to a new company known as Saber Interactive. This was allegedly because the game wasn't cinematic enough and failed to meet Sony's standards. Following this reported development no further updates have been officially or unofficially revealed about the planned game. It's also worth noting that none of this was publicly revealed by anyone involved with the project.

Embracer Group's CEO had no comment when asked about the Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic remake. To further confound matters, Embracer Group itself has apparently been going through its own issues and has undergone a lot of restructuring over the past few months. What remains unclear is just how all of this has affected the development of the game

Why the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake Needs a Proper Update

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Remake Delay

There are many questions unanswered about the game's development, and they haven't been helped by the actions of different publishers. Earlier this year Sony set the announcement trailer for the Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic remake to private on its YouTube channel. Officially this was because the music license for what was in it had expired. While it doesn't confirm anything, it has given fans reason to believe that the game has been unofficially canceled. If Embracer Group wants to keep people from thinking this is the case, it will have to offer some kind of official update.

While the companies making the game shouldn't be expected to release a full trailer some questions should be answered by those involved. The first is whether the game is still being made. With Embracer Groups' current restructuring, it could be that the Knights of the Old Republic remake got the ax and the company hasn't announced it. Furthermore, the rumors of production being restarted by Saber Interactive is something that should be addressed one way or the other and give gamers some idea of what is going on.

Ultimately until Embracer Group, Aspyr, or Saber Interactive make an official announcement much of this will remain in the rumor region. It is possible that once the parent company's restructuring finally calms down, fans may finally get some official announcement from the various companies involved. Until then, the only thing that is clear is that the Knights of the Old Republic remake is long overdue a proper update.

The Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake is currently in development for PC and PS5.
