In Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Treasure Roads are optional levels that players can attempt to get more Rare Stones and Star Coins. While the Treasure Roads have no impact on the main story, they are required if players are going for 100% completion. Each Treasure Road has its own Target Time, which, as its name indicates, is a time frame that Kirby must meet by the time he reaches the goal/Rare Stone. These levels start appearing the more copy abilities Kirby unlocks, but other Treasure Roads are based on Kirby and the Forgotten Land's new Mouthful Mode.

One Treasure Road that may be trickier than others is the Water-ballon level. By inhaling water from a spigot, Kirby's body will expand to a large size, and he'll become Water-Balloon Kirby. This allows Kirby to spray water at his enemies, put out fires, and damage machinery.

The downside is Kirby's movements are rather slow, and on a Treasure Road, it's important to reach the goal as fast as possible. The path to victory in this Treasure Road is straightforward, but there's a way to reach the Target Time and get those bonus Star Coins.

Water-Balloon Mouth Treasure Walkthrough

Kirby first uses the Water-Balloon Mouth ability in the Wondaria Remains world. However, the Water-Balloon Mouth Treasure Road isn't available until Kirby reaches Originull Wasteland.

This Treasure Road has a 3-star difficulty and a Target Time of 1:20:00. Players don't have to meet the Target Time to get the Rare Stone at the end of the Treasure Road, but they will if they want the 50 Star Coin bonus.

Area 1

  1. At the start, the timer is set to 1:45:00. Run up to the spigot and press B to get the Water-Balloon Mouth.
  2. Destroy the giant robot with water, then clear away the mud while also destroying the carnival ride.
  3. At the end of Area 1, there's another spigot. Refill if necessary, and then wait until the robot lines up with the metal crates, and press B. If timed right, they will break the metal boxes and Kirby can proceed to Area 2.
  4. Douse the flames and break the barrels.

Area 2

  1. Get rid of the two Buffahorns standing in front of the spigot (refill if necessary).
  2. To the far left is a floating platform with a pink star switch. Instead of jumping to the platform to land on the switch, shoot the switch with water. This will cause a gate to fill in the gap in the road across from Kirby, allowing the robots to walk without falling into a bottomless pit.
  3. Like the last area, once the robot is lined up with the metal blocks, shoot at it.

Area 3

  1. There is another spigot and a narrower path with mud and mechanisms. Clear the way with water, breaking any machines, and there will be three Gabons standing on top of crates. Get rid of them to pass.
  2. Shooting the switch in this area will cause one gate to slide out while the second goes back into the wall. Time this carefully so that the robot can walk on the left gate and, right before it reaches the edge of the left gate, hit the switch again to trigger the right gate.
  3. Destroy the gates and the fire barrels.

Area 4

  1. Defeat the two Big Kabu and stand facing the switch.
  2. This time, there are four gates. Hitting the switch will open the first and third gates while closing the second and fourth gates.
  3. Guide the robot along the gates until it reaches the fourth gate.
  4. Destroy the barrels and hit the robot quickly before it walks offscreen.
  5. More mud and two Rabiroos block the path as well as a wall of fire barrels. Use the rest of Water-Balloon Mouth's ability to get rid of them and grab the Rare Stone.

If done correctly, Kirby should complete the level before the Target Time. If players are in Wild Mode, they'll also get an extra 10 Star Coins.

Water-Balloon Mouth Tips

When reaching areas with the switches, it's very easy to assume they can't be hit with water. Avoid jumping on the floating platforms because this wastes time and Kirby risks falling. It's possible to jump on the platforms and trigger the switch by walking back and forth on it, but it's less likely players will reach the Target Time if they do.

Also, remember to use as little water as possible. Instead of holding down B, tap the B button to send out short spurts of water. This will save Kirby from having to run to every spigot in the Treasure Road.

Finally, Kirby can purchase the Speed Boost item at the Waddle Dee's Item Shop in Waddle Dee Town for 150 Star Coins. Kirby will need to have rescued 145 Waddle Dees for the shop to be open for business.

He can stack up to 999 seconds of Speed Boosts. It's recommended to get this buff since Kirby can't move too fast in Water-Balloon Mouth mode.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is available now on Nintendo Switch.
