Kirby and the Forgotten Land is quickly becoming one of the most well regarded Kirby games of all time. With some beautiful visuals and some surprisingly challenging and engaging gameplay, Kirby and the Forgotten Land has cemented itself as an excellent first foray into the realm of 3D. Further, as all good Kirby games do, The Forgotten Land packages everything inside a simple but engrossingly absurd story.

Beginning with Kirby and his Waddle Dee friends being sucked through a rift in space, Kirby and the Forgotten Land makes some real twists and turns along the way, eventually culminating in a boss battle that's truly out of this world. While The Forgotten Land's story isn't too complex, there are a few details players may have missed about the game's ending.

As mentioned above, Kirby and the Forgotten Land begins with the titular pink hero being pulled into a mysterious dimensional rift alongside his Dream Land pals. Kirby awakens on a beach and begins to explore the surrounding area. The island Kirby lands on is called the Forgotten Land and seems to be abandoned.

Kirby soon learns that the island is inhabited by a gang of animals named the Beast Pack, who have started kidnapping Waddle Dees. With the help of a little blue creature named Elfilin, Kirby begins to rescue the Waddle Dees and defeat the Beast Pack.

Kirby eventually runs into his old enemy King Dedede, who appears to have been possessed by something. King Dedede takes Elfilin and escapes the arena, leading Kirby to give chase. Kirby finds King Dedede at the base of the Redgar volcano, now wearing a mask that seems to make him more erratic.

Kirby smashes the mask and King Dedede returns to his usual self, holding off the Beast Pack as Kirby and Elfilin make their escape up the volcano's elevator. At the top, Kirby discovers a secret laboratory where Leongar, the King of the Beast Pack, is waiting. Leongar also appears to be possessed, boasting glowing purple eyes.

Upon defeating Leongar, a glass case behind the boss shatters, revealing a blue spore-like creature. Named Fecto Forgo, this creature was an alien that attempted to invade the Forgotten Land centuries prior when it was still a bustling society. The alien was captured and its dimensional rift abilities were researched. The Forgotten Land's inhabitants then used this ability to leave this world, perhaps heading to Dream World. In the process, this alien was split into two parts: Elfilin and Fecto Forgo.

Fecto Forgo has used the kinetic power of the Waddle Dees to free itself, and it consumes Leongar to become more powerful. After a brief chase, the alien consumes Elfilin and takes on its true form, Fecto Elfilis.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land's Multiple Endings Explained

After a tense fight where Fecto Elfilis fires meteorites and powerful beams at the player, Kirby manages to separate Elfilin from the being. In a last-ditch attempt to defeat Kirby, the weakened alien opens a rift in space and begins to bring down the entire planet of Popstar.

Kirby uses his Copy Abilities to turn into a truck, and makes a mad dash towards the boss. With the help of Elfilin, Kirby pushes a meteorite back into the boss, seemingly defeating it. In the final moments of the game, Elfilin closes the rift and the credits roll, marking the standard ending of the game.

In a post-credits scene, Leongar is possessed once again by the soul of Fecto Forgo. For the true ending, players will need to find the scattered lost souls of Leongar across the Forgotten Land. Upon collecting 250 of the 300 souls, players will be able to access the Forgo Lands. Here, they'll defeat Leongar once and for all.

The soul of Forgo then breaks out of Leongar, and a luminous orange butterfly lands on the alien. Consuming the butterfly, Forgo transforms into Morpho Knight. Defeating Morpho Knight will make Forgo's soul disappear once more. The game then ends once more, this time with the Beast Pack reviving their King.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land also has a secret ending, which can be unlocked by beating Morpho Knight and beating the Ultimate Cup Z. Once this is done, a final boss fight will unlock, this time being a more difficult Chaos version of Fecto Elfilis. Defeating this boss will end the game once more, with white particles raining down on Kirby and Elfilin.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is available now on Nintendo Switch.
