February's Nintendo Direct event came with plenty of surprises. Nintendo revealed Nintendo Switch Sports, which attempts to reproduce all the fun of Wii Sports on the Nintendo Switch. Among other first and third-party titles like Mario Strikers: Battle League, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, No Man's Sky, and Portal, there is plenty to be excited about. However, it seems that the trailer for Kirby and the Forgotten Land has had the biggest impact. Kirby, who has reigned as one of Nintendo's cutest characters for decades will be making a comeback in 2022, and he has a few new abilities that have intrigued gamers.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land will serve as the first 3D game in the main series. The game's trailer shown at February's Nintendo Direct has Kirby inhaling all sorts of large objects to gain their abilities. The sight of Kirby inhaling and swallowing random objects like traffic cones and vending machines has triggered many to make hilarious memes.

In Kirby's upcoming game, he will be exploring the Forgotten Land, a world featuring abandoned structures from past civilizations. Gamers will have fully-3D environments to explore as they trek through the Forgotten Land and attempt to save the Waddle Dees, who have been kidnaped by The Beast Pack.

Kirby will have many abilities to make use of, and he will be able to slide, jump, and inhale objects before either forcefully spitting them out at enemies, or swallowing them to gain a new copy ability. Some copy abilities that Kirby will have access to include Drill, which allows Kirby to dig underground and attack foes from below, and Ranger, which lets Kirby attack distant enemies. The game will also have a co-op mode where a second player controls Bandana Waddle Dee.

Most notably, Kirby will be able to use Mouthful Mode, which has Kirby inhaling larger objects to control them or gain their abilities. The latest trailer for the game has Kirby inhaling and swallowing many objects, including an entire car, a vending machine, a scissor lift, a traffic cone, and a ring, to name a few. Kirby can also use Mouthful Mode to swallow large quantities of water, turning Kirby into a water balloon. Although Kirby may look silly using Mouthful Mode, it is a powerful ability that will allow him to rescue the Waddle Dees and save Waddle Dee Town.

Gamers Are Enjoying The Many Mouthful Mode Memes

Kirby's Mouthful Mode has sparked the creation of several Mouthful Mode memes that are being shared on the internet, especially on Twitter and the Kirby subreddit. Kirby has been drawn and Photoshopped swallowing a plethora of unexpected items including a gun, a bus, a washing machine, a vacuum cleaner, and a garbage bin.

The trailer showing Kirby swallowing a traffic cone has also inspired some gamers to Photoshop Kirby swallowing the logo for VLC Media Player, which features an orange traffic cone as its logo. The sight of Kirby swallowing a whole car has resulted in Kirby's hilarious appearance in car adverts, as well as edits of Kirby swallowing Lightning McQueen from Cars, and vehicles in the manga series Initial D. Very quickly, "Carby" has spread virally.

The numerous Kirby memes being created bode well for Kirby and the Forgotten Land, as they illustrate that gamers still have plenty of interest in the Kirby franchise. Players are eager to explore the Forgotten Land, save Waddle Dees and, of course, use Kirby's Mouthful Mode. As the release date for the game inches nearer and more trailers are released, there will likely be plenty more hilarious Kirby memes produced.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land releases on March 25, 2022, on the Nintendo Switch.
