The Kingdom Hearts series might add one more creative outlet to its roster alongside video games and manga comics. Reports are coming in claiming that Disney is developing a TV adaptation for it.

According to sources close to WGTC, Disney is currently developing the show to stream on its Disney + streaming service. These same sources have made past claims that ended up being true, such as Disney developing a live-action Robin Hood remake and a She-Hulk show.

Of course, this supposed Kingdom Hearts tv series didn't have many details shared about it outside of it being in development. However, it will apparently follow the standard formula of Sora, Donald, and Goofy exploring various Disney worlds. Beyond that, it's unknown if the show will follow the plotline of the games, manga, or end up doing its own thing.

Its also not entirely clear as to how involved Square Enix will be — if they are at all. So whether or not Final Fantasy characters will make the cut remains a mystery. Although, when Kingdom Hearts 3 excluded Final Fantasy, it only caused fans to question the decision and request the characters return.

If Tetsuya Nomura — the director of Kingdom Hearts — ends up having any input, the show's story will likely end up being canon to the series whole. He tends to have a habit of turning side projects into canonical pieces of the main storyline. The best example of this would be Kingdom Hearts Chi — now called Union Cross.

If Disney really does want to go through with a Kingdom Hearts television series, it's a wonder why it's chosen now to do it. The franchise has been around for nearly 20 years, and the company has never shown much interest in it before. The best guess would be Kingdom Hearts 3 sales, as it ended up doing 5 million units in only a week.

If the game's sales did play a role in Disney's supposed decision to create a tv show, then Final Fantasy characters may actually be on the table. Final Fantasy 7 Remake broke a PS4 sales record in only three days after its initial release, so its popularity is undeniable.

On top of this, several of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake's main cast members have a significant presence within Kingdom Hearts, so their addition would be an excellent way to capitalize on the game's recent success. All in all, if the show does come to fruition, it'll be interesting to see how Disney handles it.
