Kingdom Hearts is arriving on Steam in June. Gamers have wanted Kingdom Hearts on multiple platforms for a long time, and as hardware has improved, many have begun to consider some of the biggest releases in the iconic series trapped on older, less capable hardware, such as the PS2. In 2021, Kingdom Hearts was announced for PC on the Epic Games Store, and to celebrate the series' anniversary in 2022, the series came to Switch in cloud versions.

It appears that there are upcoming plans for the Kingdom Hearts series that might be fast approaching. Since the release of Kingdom Hearts 3 in 2019, fans have been looking forward to Kingdom Hearts 4, which received an official announcement trailer in April 2022. Recently, known leaker Daniel Ritchtman stated that Kingdom Hearts 4 will release in 2025, which has gamers excited, and because of the gameplay shown in the announcement trailer for Kingdom Hearts 4, some fans believe the game may be further along in its development cycle than anticipated.

The move to Steam indicates immediate movement on Square Enix's stated plan to aggressively pursue a multiplatform strategy.

Although fans are excited about Kingdom Hearts' presence on new platforms, some are concerned about the status of the series. Some fans have called back to the last time there was a gap between numbered Kingdom Hearts releases, hoping that there will not be a similar 14-year wait. While the status of Kingdom Hearts 4 is unknown, Square Enix appears to be making big changes as a company.

Kingdom Hearts on Steam Could Indicate Square Enix's Next Plans

Reports highlight Square Enix's plans to restructure, and combined with the multiplatform strategy, it is clear that the company is interested in making safer decisions going forward. This may mean that when Kingdom Hearts 4 does release, the game could be on even more systems, such as the upcoming Switch successor.
