Kingdom Hearts producer Ichiro Hazama recently posted a heartfelt message for Steam users on social media, fresh off the announcement that the series is finally making its way onto Valve’s ever-popular digital gaming outlet. The Kingdom Hearts series has been combining the worlds of Disney and Final Fantasy into one epic tale of friendship and destiny for nearly 22 years, but it wouldn’t be until a PC port of Kingdom Hearts 3 was released on the Epic Game Store in 2021 that the games journeyed beyond the realms of consoles, handhelds, and mobile devices.

Earlier this week, it was announced that the Kingdom Hearts series would finally be coming to Steam on June 13. The exact games being released on the platform are Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and Kingdom Hearts 3 and its Re Mind DLC. Earlier today, a Kingdom Hearts Steam announcement trailer was released, featuring scenes from all the included games set to a remixed version of Hikaru Utada’s iconic “Simple and Clean.”

The rumors suggesting a Star Wars world is coming to Kingdom Hearts 4 is exciting, but it needs to avoid becoming the centerpiece.

The official Kingdom Hearts Twitter account later posted a message from series producer Ichiro Hazama addressing the franchise’s upcoming release on Steam. In it, Hazama stated that he and the rest of the development team behind the Kingdom Hearts games are excited to see more players experience them on a new platform, as well as longtime fans enjoying them all over again.

Kingdom Hearts Steam Release Date

  • June 13, 2024

The old games aren’t the only thing Kingdom Hearts fans are looking forward to, as Square Enix confirmed that Kingdom Hearts 4 is indeed in development way back in 2022. However, details have been extremely scarce since then, with the only thing players know for sure being that part of the game will take place in a new location called Quadratum, a city seemingly based on the real-life Shibuya. It has been speculated that Kingdom Hearts 4 will look to other Disney-owned properties like Marvel and Star Wars for new worlds to explore, though nothing official has been verified as of this writing.

Both longtime fans and newcomers like will have plenty of time to catch up on the Kingdom Hearts storyline in the meantime, as the collections being released on Steam cover most of the “Dark Seeker Saga” storyline detailing Sora and company’s efforts to save the universe from the sinister Organization XIII. The people who worked on this epic tale are excited to see more gamers dive into the magical world of Kingdom Hearts, and Steam is one of the biggest outlets the seminal JRPG franchise had yet to reach before now.
