A few days ago, the official Kingdom Hearts Dark Road website went up unexpectedly, and as a result, ended up getting datamined. Said digital excavation had provided several interesting Kingdom Hearts leaks, such as a new project titled "Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory."

The leaks also revealed two new screenshots from Dark Road itself, one of which showed Xehanort and his friends addressing a mysterious new character. Speculation went around claiming that this character was Xehanort and Eraqus' teacher, and Square Enix has gone ahead and confirmed that is indeed the case.

The developer released a profile on the character that revealed his name to be Master Odin. The name "Odin" obviously originates from Norse mythology, so it follows the same naming scheme as Xehanort's new friends — Vor, Hermond, Bragi, and Urd. Speaking of which, Odin will be Vor, Hermond, Bragi, and Urd's teacher as well as Xehanort and Eraqus'.

Design-wise, Master Odin looks like the typical wise and old wizard that doubles as a mentor to Hero's Journey protagonists. He wears a conical hat with a wide brim, sports a long, white beard, and dons a loose-fitting robe. The overall look of his design takes attributes from both Xehanort and Eraqus. He has Xehanort's bronze skin, Eraqus' pants, and colors from both characters in his outfit.

How exactly Odin will fit into the grand scheme of Dark Road remains a mystery. Definitively, however, he should provide more insight as to why The Land of Departure is so essential to keep safe and what Scala ad Caelum has to do with the overarching story of Kingdom Hearts. He should also, of course, give some insight as to why Xehanort decides to take the path he did.

Square Enix released profiles of Odin's students as well. There's no English translation for any of them yet, but each profile looks to contain a quote from each character, so they aren't too revealing. However, they do reveal more Dark Road screenshots. The game's English Twitter account may update with the information later today.

The Norse naming scheme is a first for the KH series, so it'll be interesting to see how the characters embody it. A name like Odin makes one wonder if a Thor and Loki might be waiting in the wings. Maybe fans will find out when Kingdom Hearts Dark Road launches.

Kingdom Hearts Dark Road is currently delayed but will launch on mobile devices.
