Highlights

Well-known insider Midori recently shared some notable information regarding the upcoming Square Enix game Kingdom Hearts 4, including—among other things—a potential release window for the title. After its prolonged absence from several gaming showcases over the last couple of years, fans have patiently waited for an update on the next installment in the popular action RPG series. Though they may still have to wait a while longer for more official details about Kingdom Hearts 4, this latest batch of leaks from Midori may at least give fans some clarity on when to expect the highly-anticipated title.

Despite it being one of the biggest JRPG franchises ever, the Kingdom Hearts series has been rather dormant since the release of the third mainline entry in the series in 2019. Apart from some mobile titles and the 2020 rhythm-based spin-off Kindgom Hearts: Melody of Memory, fans haven't exactly been swimming in Kingdom Hearts games lately, like they were during the sixth and seventh console generations. In recent years, the most significant update that Square Enix provided about the franchise was the announcement of Kingdom Hearts 4 in April 2022. Since then, however, both the game and the series as a whole have largely gone radio-silent, with no word from the developers on what's next from the franchise. Fortunately, though, one insider may at least have an idea of what's going on with Kingdom Hearts 4.

Kingdom Hearts 4 is Right Not to Pull the Trigger Any Time Soon

No Kingdom Hearts 4 developments have turned up for a while, but it may be in the game's best interest to keep itself under wraps.

According to a recent tweet she made, the Japanese gaming leaker Midori alleges that Kingdom Hearts 4 is "currently planned" to release sometime in 2026. Additionally, she states that KH4's logo "looks different now than it did when it was [first] revealed," but that it's fortunately "not bad." Midori then wraps her post up by claiming that "more information on the future of the series will be revealed at a later date," though she fails to provide any specifics about when this will happen, whether it's this year or the next. Judging by this information, though, it looks like this upcoming Square Enix RPG is still a ways off from being released, so the "later date" Midori's referring to might not be anytime soon.

Kingdom Hearts 4 reportedly releasing in 2026 may be a bit disappointing for some fans of the franchise, as they'll probably have to wait even longer to get more official info on the game. If there's anything gamers can be assured about, though, it's that they likely won't have to worry about the title skipping their preferred platform, as Square Enix revealed plans to aggressively pursue a multiplatform strategy not too long ago.

It Looks Like Kingdom Hearts 4 is Still Far Away from Being Released

Though there will surely be some disappointment that Kingdom Hearts 4 may still be far away, fans can use the time before its release to get a refresher on the incredibly complicated lore of the beloved franchise, trying out the older games in the series that have just released on Steam. KH titles coming to Valve's storefront may not be very exciting news for some, but it's still something to tide players over until the day Square Enix releases another trailer for Kingdom Hearts 4.
