We've known for quite some time now that Kingdom Hearts 3will have post-launch DLC, but we're just now learning what that DLC will entail. Game director Tetsuya Nomura has revealed some information about Kingdom Hearts 3's story DLC, such as the fact that it will feature the character Xion.

Xion is one of the more confusing characters in Kingdom Hearts' complicated and convoluted narrative, and so even those who have played most games in the series can be forgiven if they don't exactly know who she is. To properly explain Xion and her role in Kingdom Hearts 3, though, we will have to venture into spoiler territory for the latest game, so please proceed with caution.

Near the end of Kingdom Hearts 3, Xion sort of randomly appears during one of the final battles with Organization XIII. At first she is an antagonist, but she quickly regains her memories and joins forces with Sora and the gang. Not much explanation is given that explains how Xion managed to return in Kingdom Hearts 3, but fans should get some answers in Kingdom Hearts 3's DLC. As stated by Nomura, "I think it’s something that people could guess, but we plan to explain it in downloadable content."

Some Kingdom Hearts fans, especially those who just played the numbered entries in the series, may still be confused as to who Xion is. Well, like many things in the series, her origin is a little confusing. According to the wiki, Xion is a Replica (clone) of Roxas (Sora's Nobody), who was created using Sora's memories. To make things even harder to follow, her appearance can change depending on who is looking at her, though she most commonly resembles Kairi.

We can guess that Xion was able to come back because she was one of the characters tied to Sora's "heart," not unlike Roxas and Ventus. However, we don't actually see Xion being revived from Sora's heart, so it's unclear exactly how that entire process went down. Right now, we have more questions than answers, so hopefully Kingdom Hearts 3's story DLC will clear things up.

Kingdom Hearts 3 is out now for PS4 and Xbox One.
