The reveal trailer for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 showed several features that are worth breaking down and discussing. Here are the main takeaways.

And while the RPG is still waiting for a concrete release date, its developer has now revealed some new details concerning its performance targets. During a lecture at the recently concluded Game Access Conference '24 in Brno, Warhorse Studios Executive Producer Martin Klíma said that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 will be targeting 30 frames per second across all consoles. The Xbox Series S version will run at 1440p, while the Xbox Series X and PS5 will offer a 4K experience. Klíma did not clarify whether the game will render in a native resolution or upscale its image output, Czech outlet Zing reports.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Won't Offer Multiple Graphics Modes on Consoles

What he did say is that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 won't feature multiple graphics modes. The practice, which started gaining traction around the time the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X hit the market, saw many console games offer users a choice between performance and quality modes. Warhorse Studios is resisting that trend in favor of focusing all of its resources on optimizing a single mode. Those optimization efforts are said to be progressing well, with Klíma revealing that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is already running above 30fps in Warhorse's tests. Nevertheless, the developer intends to lock the game's frame rate on consoles.

The studio official did not clarify whether this cap is also planned to apply to the PC version of the game. But if the RPG's predecessor is any indication, that won't be the case; the only cap that Kingdom Come: Deliverance had on PC pertained to its cutscenes, which were locked to 30 frames per second by default. And even that limitation was side-steppable with a custom configuration file which takes advantage of some of the native commands of CryEngine 3. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 will use a newer and heavily modified version of the same engine.

While the lack of graphics options may come as a disappointment to some console gamers who prefer sacrificing resolution for performance, focusing on a single mode may allow Warhorse to deliver a more polished experience compared to the previous game. Its 2018 RPG caught some flak on that front, having launched with so many technical issues that Klíma even said he wished the developer had more time to complete Kingdom Come: Deliverance. The majority of those problems were fixed post-release.
