How to Install Mods on Killing Floor 2

After you've clicked Subscribe to the mod you've chosen, you should receive a prompt at the bottom of Steam that says the game is updating. Some mods will require you to download multiple items, and in this case, you'll receive a prompt before downloading that will let you also download the additional required items.

Now, make sure you are out of the game, or have closed it and restarted it. Open the game from your Steam library, and from here, you can find some of the mods that you've downloaded. If you downloaded a map, start by choosing 'Play Solo Offline'. Here, you can choose the starting map. Scroll to the very bottom of the list, and you should be able to find the modded maps you have. For example, we have the KF-Zelda map, which you can see in the first image.

As for new weapons, you can check these whenever you visit a trader in battle and purchase a new weapon. As for some new skins, there is a particular process you'll need to follow. For example, here's what you'll need to do:

  • Start by locating the modded skin you want to download. Open up the page in the Steam Workshop, and click Subscribe.
  • At the top, you'll notice a link to the page, starting with 'steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/' and so on.
  • At the end of the link, you'll want to copy the ID which comes right after the portion '/?id=/'. It will be a number like 2450492085.
  • Now, go to your documents, find Killing Floor 2 in the 'My Games' folder, choose KFGame, Cache, and then find the folder with the ID number you copied. Open the folder all the way until the end when you find a .upk file.
  • You'll want to copy this file, and then navigate to your Killing Floor 2 folder again. An easy way to do this is to go to Killing Floor 2 in your Steam library, click Properties, Installed Files, and then Browse.
  • In the file folder, click KFGame, BrewedPC, Packages, Weapons, and then find the weapon that you are specifically trying to add a skin to. Open the folder, and paste the mod in here.

If you have downloaded a skin that isn't for a particular weapon, you can instead search for the particular zip file you download in the Steam Apps folder in your computer, and extract the folder from the KFGame folder in your Killing Floor 2 folder in your documents. Chances are, if you aren't sure what to do, each mod you download will have instructions underneath the Subscribe button. Then, you can go ahead and play the game with your new weapons, skins, maps, and much more.
