At E3 2015, Microsoft revived a classic Rare franchise in the form of Killer Instinct, bringing the arcade fighting game to modern times on the Xbox One with gorgeous graphics and slick, fluid gameplay. The rebooted Killer Instinct has proven popular enough to warrant a second season, and now even more gamers are going to have a chance to try the new Killer Instinct.

As announced by Head of Xbox Phil Spencer during the inaugural E3 2015 PC Gaming Show, Killer Instinct is coming to PC later this year. A release window wasn't announced, but expect it to be available on PC at some point after the launch of Windows 10 on July 29th.

While on stage for the PC Gaming Show, Spencer was vague about the possibility of cross-platform play between the Xbox One version of the game and the PC version. The possibility is certainly there, especially with games like Fable Legends featuring cross-platform play between PC and Xbox.

Spencer was later joined during the presentation by developers of Fable Legends and Gigantic to further promote the marriage between Xbox and PC. It was also announced that Gears of War: Ultimate Edition is coming to PC. Based on these announcements, it seems as though Phil Spencer and Xbox will be making right on their promise that Microsoft will no longer neglect the PC gaming market. Expect to hear more on the relationship between Xbox and PC gaming in the coming months, possibly even as soon as Gamescom in August.

Microsoft's own press conference was highly focused on Xbox, but they also made a point to mention the relationship between Xbox and PC. One example of this is the fact that PC mods for Fallout 4 will work with Xbox One, a virtually unprecedented move in the console space.

With Killer Instinct and Gears of War: Ultimate Edition coming to PC, this leaves the door open for other potential Xbox IP to make the jump to PC as well. In fact, Rod Fergusson of The Coalition teased at the possibility of Gears of War 4 eventually coming to PC in the future, but don't expect any major new Xbox One games to hit PC until much later than the console version.

The announcement of Killer Instinct coming to PC is just the latest Rare news to come out of E3 2015. During Microsoft's press conference, they announced an intriguing collection of past Rare games called Rare Replay for Xbox One, as well as another Xbox One exclusive in the form of a gorgeous looking pirate-themed MMO called Sea of Thieves.

Killer Instinct doesn't have a release date on PC just yet, but expect to hear more in the near future. In the meantime, the rebooted version of the game is currently available on Xbox One.
