At the premiere of The Last of Us, Thomas was asked what his favorite game is. Without hesitation, he said “My favorite video game of all time: Final Fantasy 7.” When considering his age, the response is not surprising. For many gamers growing up in the ‘90s, Final Fantasy 7 proved to be one of the most formative gaming experiences. Released in 1997, the title was a monumental release that followed years of production and hype, as it was deemed too demanding for previous generations of consoles. Final Fantasy 7 was released on PlayStation in favor of the initially planned Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The story, characters, locations, art, soundtrack, and overall scope of the game have consistently been praised, by critics and players, ever since the release. The effects of which can still be felt today with the recent release of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion.

While Thomas said that Final Fantasy 7 is his number one, he also listed some of his other favorites, those being Mega Man X, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Metal Gear Solid, and Super Smash Bros. His choices are similar to a “best of PlayStation era games” list, again revealing of his formative years in the 90s and 2000s. Although it isn’t his absolute favorite, Khleo Thomas went into more detail on his favorite Metal Gear Solid game. When asked, again without hesitation, Thomas replied “Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater.” Talking about Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, one of the best PS2 games, Thomas said that some of his favorite aspects were the camo system and the boss fights, specifically referring to the fight with The End, and the trick to simply change the time on the PS2’s clock and let him die of old age.

Snake Eater is another title that has received high critical praise since its release, with some of the only criticism being Hideo Kojima’s choice of camera controls, which was fixed on the expanded Subsistence version released shortly after. While Final Fantasy 7 has had a fair share of remasters, and more recently a very successful remake, Snake Eater has thus far only received an HD remaster and a 3DS remaster. There have been recent rumors of a Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, so perhaps it won’t be long until Khleo Thomas can relive the experience.
