Fried chicken restaurant Kentucky Fried Chicken, KFC, is releasing an official dating simulator on Steam. The game, called I Love You, Colonel Sanders! A Finger Lickin' Good Dating Simulator, isn't the restaurant's first foray into gaming as it launched it KFC Gaming Twitter and then began to troll the Apex Legends development team.
The official description for I Love You, Colonel Sanders! A Finger Lickin’ Good Dating Simulator explains that the game lets players take on the role of a "promising culinary student" who would really like to date Colonel Sanders. While the fried chicken mascot may seem like a strange choice for a dating sim love interest, Sanders has been given a new, anime style for the game. Many may also remember that pigeon dating sim Hatoful Boyfriend was wildly successful when it was released in 2011 so it seems that the ridiculousness of a love interest has never stopped gamers.
To win the Colonel's affections, players will have to do more than name each of the 11 herbs and spices that make up the tasty fried chicken coating. "Throughout your journey, you'll be faced with life-changing decisions that will affect your chances of friendship and love," says the I Love You Colonel Sanders Steam page, and "Your choices have real consequences with real animated characters' feelings at stake." There will be cooking battles, "battle battles," secret recipes, a secret ending, and nine "lovable" characters such as Professor Dog, who is a dog.
I Love You, Colonel Sanders releases on PC on September 24, but some gamers are weighing in on the game now. Under the game's trailer on YouTube, a user named serdion said that "This is why capitalism is the superior system," while user Rita Mordio wrote, "this is the best dating sim we're ever gonna get." User Aa Bb just wrote "NOTICE ME SANDERS-KUN!" probably speaking for most people who have seen the trailer or will play this game.
Others will probably be much more cynical when it comes to the game. The game does seem to really exist but it's also a bit of marketing for KFC which has tried very hard to make inroads with the gaming community. The company has also teamed up with Final Fantasy 14 as players could visit KFC and eat huge amounts of chicken to get a code for a black Fat Chocobo. I Love You, Colonel Sanders is less likely to cause indigestion than that, though.
