Ken Jeong has joined up for season 2 of Apple TV Plus' The Afterparty, and he'll be in some solid company. The second season of the creative murder mystery comedy already has a pretty stacked cast along with several returning characters, and the inclusion of talent like Jeong can only add to the anticipation.

Jeong is the latest of many to take up residence at The Afterparty season 2. But while most of the new cast members were all announced at once, it seems as though he was deemed important enough to get his own specific proclamation. Given the nature of the Apple TV Plus series, the majority of them will likely not appear in any potentially subsequent seasons after this one, so Jeong's casting could be a hint or simply a way to throw off viewers.

Deadline reports the Community actor will join returning stars Tiffany Haddish, Sam Richardson, and Zoë Chao as Detective Danner, Aniq, and Zoe, respectively. But aside from the returning faces, Jeong will find himself among other newcomers Elizabeth Perkins, Zach Woods, Paul Walter Hauser, Poppy Liu, Anna Konkle, Jack Whitehall, and Vivian Wu. The new Afterparty season 2 characters and setting have already been revealed, with the new mystery set to take place at a wedding. But there are still plenty of details left to uncover.

At the moment, all that's known about Jeong's character is his name: Feng. Given his penchant for comedy, which is currently on display via his presence on Mike Myers' The Pentaverate on Netflix, it seems pretty likely that those talents won't be wasted. Showrunner Chris Miller, who will split duties with Anthony King for season 2, is generally pretty solid at making the best of his stars along with his frequent collaborator Phil Lord. So there shouldn't be any worries there. This is the same duo who brought up The LEGO Batman Movie and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, after all. That's not even to mention their recent hit The Mitchells vs. the Machines.

Season 1 of The Afterparty saw Haddish's Detective Danner attempting to solve a murder that took place during a high school reunion party. The gimmick was that, under the framing device of her interviewing each party member, every episode was told from a different perspective and even in a different genre. Richardson's Aniq gave his testimony as if it was a romantic comedy while Ben Schwartz's Yasper turned his time into a musical episode. The storytelling style brought in the viewers, but they stayed for the performances and genuinely well-thought-out mystery.

Season 2 should offer more of the same in that regard but with new twists thanks to the new cast members and setting. Here's hoping new animation legends Lord and Miller keep up that always enjoyable charm that permeates their projects because creative new shows like The Afterparty always deserve the spotlight.

The Afterparty season 1 is available to stream on Apple TV Plus.
