It sounds like The Boys will not be pulling any punches for its upcoming season. The Amazon Prime hit show will hit the streaming service in only a few days, and it appears the show will be as gruesome as ever. Karl Urban said as much in a recent interview, noting that because the upcoming third season of the show was as gory as it was, they experienced some issues on set.

Urban said that the third season of The Boys will be so shocking for the fans to see. He later said that the gore from the third season will be so gratuitous that at one point, the show ran out of fake blood. He even added that, in light of his character Billy Butcher's newfound superpowers, the viewers should absolutely be afraid of what he is capable of.

"You should be worried," Urban said during an interview with Radio X. After Urban later called the third season of the show "truly diabolical," he then went on to say why fans should be looking forward to this upcoming season of The Boys. "This season is going to be the most explosive (The Boys) season yet... Every episode is something shocking, and I promise you in this season there are things in this show that you will never be able to un-see," Urban explained. He even added what point specifically the production crew was in short supply of fake blood. "The makeup department ran out of blood on episode three."

If all of this is true, then the show is going back to what made the first season so appealing to begin with. It wasn't just that the show added the twist that the superheroes were the antagonists of the show. It was that every episode in the first season added a new layer of tension before it all finally broke in its finale. The second season definitely told its story to have an epic finale in the end, but it didn't feel like it added tension in every episode, so hopefully, this third season, which will be gorier than ever, will be more reminiscent of season 1.

That being said, if The Boys is going back to the roots of its first season, they have to be careful not to repeat themselves in the process. A show can get gory and add all the tension to the plot, but if it's repeating what's already been done, the viewers will catch onto this and ultimately lose interest. This was the issue with shows like Stranger Things. They had an incredible first season that got audiences very invested. Sadly, while the seasons that followed weren't bad, it felt like the show was repeating itself, thus making it feel like they already got out what they wanted to say in their first season. Even though it still has a strong fanbase, the intrigue to Stranger Things is not nearly as potent as it once was.

Luckily from the looks of things, The Boys is going to venture into new territory, like the protagonists acquiring superpowers. Doing this changes the game because it levels the playing field with the corrupt supes in The Seven. Up until now, the show has been about exposing Vought for their crimes, but this season appears to be saying that the only way to stop the superheroes will be to fight fire with fire. If that's where this season is going, then The Boys season 3 will be a fun ride

The Boys season 3 will air on Amazon Primse on June 3, 2022.
