As part of the various exciting announcements made at the Jump Festa '24 event that took place last week, the upcoming anime adaptation of Naoya Matsumoto's Kaiju No. 8 manga is set to make history as the first-ever anime to stream worldwide on X (formerly known as Twitter).

This update adds to the initial announcement that Kaiju No. 8 would be streamed exclusively by Crunchyroll, as a brand-new trailer released on Sunday revealed broadcast information, cast and staff rosters, as well as a new key visual featuring protagonist Kafka Hibino and some of his allies in the Japan Defense Force. Kaiju No. 8 is slated for broadcast in April 2024.

Staff involved in the production of Kaiju No. 8 at Production I.G. include Shigeyuki Miya and Tomomi Kamiya serving as series directors, while Code Geass co-creator Ichiro Okōchi is in charge of series composition. Shinji Kimura serves as art director, with Naruto character designer Tetsuya Nishio serving as chief animation director and character designer. Mahiro Maeda is the Kaiju designer, Izumi Hirose serves as colour designer and Eiji Arai is director of photography.

Masaru Matsumoto is the director of 3DCG, Aya Hida is the series editor, and the sound director is Fumiyuki Gō; with music composed by Yuta Bandō. Rebuild of Evangelion production studio Khara supervises the Kaiju designs and artworks. Cast members revealed so far include Masaya Fukunishi (Draken, Tokyo Revengers) as Kafka Hibino/Kaiju No. 8; Asami Seto (Nobara Kugisaki, JUJUTSU KAISEN) as Mina Ashiro; Wataru Katō (Rentarō Aijō, 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You) as Reno Ichikawa; Fairouz Ai (Power, Chainsaw Man) as Kikoru Shinomiya and Kengo Kawanishi (Muichirō Tokitō, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba) as Sōshirō Hoshina.

Kaiju No. 8 is set in a world plagued by creatures known as Kaiju. 32-year-old Kafka Hibino pledged to enlist in the Japan Defense Force alongside his childhood best friend, Mina Ashiro, to defeat the Kaiju threat once and for all; however, life did not go as intended and the two wound up going in completely different directions.

Mina became the Captain of the 3rd Division in the Defense Force, recognized as one of humanity's best hopes against the Kaiju; while Kafka became one of the members of a vital division responsible for cleaning up the aftermath of Kaiju battles. Kafka almost gives up hope; however, his passion is rekindled when he meets the highly ambitious 19-year-old Reno Ichikawa, determined to enlist in the Defense Force. Excited to work towards his childhood promise once more, Kafka has no way of knowing the metamorphosis that he will soon undergo. Kaiju No. 8 will broadcast on Crunchyroll and X when it airs in April 2024.
