Jurassic World Dominion star DeWanda Wise portrays pilot Kayla Watts in the upcoming threequel. Now, she recently provided some clarity regarding her sudden exit from Marvel Studios' Captain Marvel.

Before Wise signed on to Jurassic World Dominion, she was most known for her groundbreaking role in the Spike Lee acclaimed Netflix series, She's Gotta Have It. Prior to her involvement in both of those projects, she spent a good chunk of her early career acting in film shorts and picking up random one-off TV roles. However, it was that groundwork that eventually led to her being cast in the hit Netflix films Someone Great and Fatherhood. Wise was initially chosen to star alongside Brie Larson and Jude Law in Captain Marvel. This would have been Wise's official introduction into the MCU as Maria Rambeau, Carol's good friend and former Air Force Pilot.

Unfortunately, Wise had no choice but to detach herself from the Marvel Studios film when the actress had scheduling conflicts due to her also filming She's Gotta Have It at the same time. As a result, actress Lashana Lynch was subsequently given the role of Maria Rambeau. Wise has just recently explained her swift leave from Captain Marvel in a new video from Gizmodo. Captain Marvel was originally going to be Wise's first major blockbuster role. Now, Jurassic World Dominion will be filling in, marking a huge milestone in Wise's career.

She clarified that her departure was not something she wanted whatsoever. “I did not choose to leave - like, I would never make that choice for myself, that sounds ridiculous. You sign a contract for a TV show, and it's in the first position, and that's just a responsibility," Wise explained. "You have audience members who are like, 'I would've taken a lawsuit,’ - good for you. I don't want to be sued! Not trying to be sued by director Spike Lee and Netflix. So, you know, at the time it was very disappointing, and also difficult in that context."

Wise also admitted that she has an internal rule about not repeating roles. “Maria was a pilot, and... I don't repeat performances, so If I had played in Captain Marvel, if I'd already played a pilot, and then Colin [Trevorrow] called me for this, and he's like 'Guess what? She's a pilot,' I would've been like, 'I'm so sorry, I don't believe in capitalism - you're going to have to find someone else,'" she stated. "I just think everything happens in the timing that it's meant to happen, and I'm very thankful to be here now."

Wise now stars alongside cast members Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum. Actor Sam Neill, who played Alan in the original Jurassic Park series, is also set to reprise his beloved role. The film is helmed by director Colin Trevorrow. Trevorrow is also making a return, as he directed the very first installment of the Pratt Jurassic World trilogy, 2015's Jurassic World.

Jurassic World Dominion hits theaters on June 10th, 2022.
