The July NPD sales list for gaming is out, letting fans get a clear grasp of the wider gaming community. While there were many high selling new releases last month, the game that topped the charts was Ghost of Tsushima. Even though the game is exclusive to the PS4, that didn't slow down its sales or impede its popularity.

Though the game has only been out less than a month, many fans have played Ghost of Tsushima and followed Jin through his Samurai journey. The game is currently the fastest-selling title from Sucker Punch Productions, the game's developer, as well as the 5th best-selling game of the year. While this game is clearly at the top of the month's sales list, it isn't the only notable game to appear in the rankings.

The second highest-selling game on the list was Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and with the franchise's popularity, this isn't very surprising. The third-place name on the list is another July release, Paper Mario: The Origami King, which came out on the same day as Ghost of Tsushima. The new Paper Mario game is the fastest-selling in the series, with fans purchasing more copies more quickly than the previous record holder in that category, Super Paper Mario.

The fourth game on the list won't come as a surprise to most gamers. The Last of Us 2 was the highest-selling game in June, and it was the 4th highest selling in July. Despite the controversy around the game, the Naughty Dog title has earned the 3rd highest sales of any Sony published game, with only Spider-Man PS4 and 2018's God of War beating it out for the top slot.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons continues to do well, coming in 5th on the July sales list. With the coronavirus pandemic still raging in parts of the world, many players are using the Nintendo title to connect with friends, as well as recreate scenes from popular shows and other games while they remain inside.

Overall, the gaming industry has been doing well, despite the economic difficulties that most other industries are currently facing. Companies like EA and Capcom have earned record sales numbers during this time, and hopefully, gaming companies will put their profit to good use by rewarding their employees for the work they've put into creating the games players continue to enjoy.
