Jujutsu Kaisen: Aoi Todo's Return, Explained

Aoi Todo should return to the Jujutsu Kaisen main story soon.

Yuji was blessed physically, but was not given a Cursed Technique from the get-go. The vast majority of his fellow sorcerers were blessed with Cursed Techniques and this left fans wondering as to why Yuji does not have his own. Of course, not having a Cursed Technique doesn't mean that he won't get to awaken one eventually. In fact, there is quite a decent chance that Yuji will awaken a powerful Cursed Technique as the story progresses.

Yuji's Best Abilities

Yuji using Divergent Fist

Itadori Yuji is an incredibly smart fighter. He is blessed physically and fans have already seen him showcase power that far surpasses the vast majority of the cast. Yuji is incredibly powerful when it comes to physical strength. When he fought against Todo, it was clear to see that his physical strength far surpassed that of Todo, however, he was lacking in many other areas, and this included a Cursed Technique as well. That said, usually devised his way around these weaknesses. For instance, he still managed to learn how to use his Cursed Energy efficiently and developed the power of divergent fist. This was certainly not a Cursed Technique, however, it was strong enough to challenge even some of the strongest of enemies, and fans have seen him perform wonders with these powers.

When trained by the likes of Gojo and Todo, Yuji excelled tremendously in combat and reached unprecedented levels of power, all without even achieving a Cursed Technique. While fans were thoroughly impressed by his display, they still knew that something was missing and for him to reach the next level, he would need to receive a Cursed Technique. Now, receiving a cursed technique would certainly be difficult for him, given that the vast majority awaken it at a very young age, however, that certainly doesn't mean it is impossible.

Yuji As Sukuna's Vessel

Sukuna I'm not pleased

The most significant thing to have happened to Yuji in his entire life is eating Sukuna's finger and, as a result of that, becoming his vessel. Yuji became incredibly powerful whenever Sukuna took control. In fact, fans have seen Sukuna take over on a few occasions and demonstrate what can be called unparalleled strength. Sukuna is the strongest sorcerer in history after all and even though Yuji did not have all 20 fingers for the vast majority of the time, whatever little he had was enough to devastate even the strongest of enemies. For example, Special Grade Curses who held the power of a Sukuna finger were easily destroyed by him. Even characters as strong as Jogo stood absolutely no chance in front of Sukuna and Mahoraga was just another stepping stone for him in battle.

Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 242 Preview: Kenjaku And Sukuna On The Move

Jujutsu Kaisen 242 will see Kenjaku and Takaba fight a bizarre battle.

It was clear to see that Yuji was a monster to take on in combat. One of the biggest advantages of being Sukuna's vessel was that it allowed Yuji to use a Cursed Technique. This Cursed Technique was none other than that of Sukuna, the name of which remains unknown to this day. That said, fans do know that it revolves around cutting and cleaving. This Cursed Technique has two strong cutting techniques and these are Cleave and Dismantle. For anything that can be considered a sorcerer or someone with cursed energy, Sukuna uses Cleave. For anything that is a non-sorcerer or simply doesn't possess cursed energy, Dismantle works. Both of these attacks are incredibly powerful and when used at the strongest, they can't carve apart even the world, which is nothing short of staggering.

Will Yuji Awaken A Cursed Technique?

The question as to whether Yuji will awaken a Cursed Technique or not is one that has been in the minds of fans for quite a long time, and probably the answer to this question is yes. Yuji absolutely will awaken a Cursed Technique as the story progresses. This is simply down to what Gojo said to Yuji long ago in the story. According to Gojo, as he is the vessel of Sukuna, his Cursed Technique will trickle down into his body and, in time, he will be able to make use of this Cursed Technique as well. This only means that Yuji will be able to gain the same Cursed Technique as Sukuna. This is somewhat similar to how inherited Cursed Techniques work. Although Sukuna’s technique is certainly not an inherited one and cannot simply be passed on to someone, it will trickle down into Yuji and give him access to it as well.

Fans have already seen glimpses of this happening in the story. For instance, when Yuji fought against Sukuna in the Culling Game, he was showing some resistance to the slash-based attacks that Sukuna launched at him. This is unheard of, especially for someone who is not a user of Reverse Cursed Technique. At the same time, fans should remember that Sukuna himself was cut after the clash and this cut could've come from Yuji himself.

It is inevitable for Yuji to get a Cursed Technique and the likeliest that he will end up receiving is the one that Sukuna wields. Yuji will be able to use both Cleave and Dismantle. There are also other aspects of Sukuna's cursed technique that fans do not know just yet. Sukuna has not revealed the secrets of his Cursed Technique, even though doing that would increase the efficiency of his powers. Fans have seen him use pyrokinetic abilities and, at the same time, sometimes it feels as if he's almost copying the abilities of other sorcerers. There is a lot that is unexplained about Sukuna's Cursed Technique and, perhaps, when Yuji gains access to it, fans will truly learn what this power is.

How Strong Will Yuji Get With A Cursed Technique?

Itadori Yuji

With Sukuna's cursed technique at his disposal, Yuji will certainly become very powerful. Of course, he would still not reach the same levels as Sukuna himself, however, he will have to train his way to that point. The Cursed Technique itself is strong enough to end the worst majority of fighters that exist in the world of JJK. Fans have seen the large-scale destruction that Sukuna has caused even with just 15 fingers in the past. Fans have also seen him put up a fight against the likes of Gojo and do incredibly well. Now, the fact is that Sukuna is far more complete than Yuji would be with just a Cursed Technique, however, it would give fans a glimpse of what Yuji could be like in the future.

At the same time, fans should also remember that Yuji will continue to grow after Awakening his Cursed Technique as well. For instance, Yuji just needs to gain a grasp over Reverse Cursed Technique. Once he does all those things and combines them with his incredible physical strength, he will certainly become an unstoppable sorcerer, and perhaps someone worthy of rivaling Sukuna himself.

Jujutsu Kaisen is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of JJK, Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 242, is set to be November 19, 2023.
