Jujutsu KaisenSeason 2 started with a trip to the past. The story about Gojo's youth and his relationship with Suguru is an important context before the Shibuya arc, but another pretty relevant element is the introduction of Toji Fushiguro.

This rather mysterious man at the beginning turned out to be related to the main story in a number of ways, in addition to being the first one that actually challenged Satoru. One of the most interesting characters in all of Jujutsu Kaisen.

The Fushiguro Last Name

His name was originally Toji Zen'in however he was never respected or accepted within the Clan members. As he wasn't gifted for jujutsu, he wasn't valuable for the Zen'in who only cared about power, social ranking and continuing the family's tradition. After years of being treated like the black sheep, constantly bullied (that's how he got the mouth scar) and he left the Clan. To survive he would talk his way into being taking care of different women, spending tons of money in weapons and gambling what led him to also work as an assassin for multiple shady individuals. He put a pause on his shady business after meeting Megumi's mother. When they got married he took the wife's last name, Fushiguro

Very little is known about her other than she held a special place in Toji's heart. Unfortunately this didn't last long. Although the cause is unknown she died shortly after giving birth to Megumi. Perhaps because he was related to her death or simply because he reminds him of her, but Toji didn't really care or had a close relationship with his son, forgetting his name at times. This general attitude turned contradictory at the end of his battle with Gojo or his future encounter with Megumi, so it's really hard to tell what his actual feelings are.

He got married again sometime later. This also unnamed woman already had a child, Tsumiki. Despite managing to form another family after the tragedy, he certainly didn't find the same peace. He would gamble non-stop and started to work as a mercenary again just to afford his addiction. It's safe to say that he never recovered from the loss of his beloved first wife what led him to the events of the Gojo's Past Arc and the Shibuya Incident Arc where he also makes an appearance.

Strength And Abilities

Toji was born without ay curse energy making him a non-curse user lacking the talent for jujutsu despite being a Zen'in. However, he managed to become one of the strongest fighters in the world to the point of cornering Saturo Gojo. All that was possible thanks to his Heavenly Restriction. He is the only known case where a Heavenly Restricted body erased their curse energy completely. In return, he gained an unparalleled physical prowess, acute senses and ability to interact with curses. Thanks to not having curse energy at all he can't go by undetected to other sorcerers, even avoiding the Six Eyes which is certainly useful.

That alone, of course, wouldn't be enough. Toji is a master weapons specialist but in a unique way. He shares a master-servant relationship with a cursed spirit that has the ability to store and extract all his weapons at any given time. This odd relationship was cultivated by him treating the spirit as cat or a dog. His arsenal includes very powerful cursed tools such as the Split Soul Katana used to cut virtually anything, the Inverted Spear of Heaven which contains the power to nullify cursed techniques on contact, the Chain of a Thousand Miles, pretty self-descriptive, and the Playful Cloud, later Maki's weapon.

He was gifted in an opposite way to Gojo. His enhanced senses, immense speed, strength and reflexes on top of a masterful strategist intellect were able to counter Satoru's innate jujutsu skills. Combining all that with his weapons and methodic plans before every fight, and you have a truly fearsome individual, a force to be reckoned.

Personality Traits

Toji Fushiguro is as confident and manipulative as it can get. Despite his complicated upbringing he learned to live for himself and in the process become incredibly self-centered. It's fair to say that the only person he ever cared about other than himself was Megumi's mother, and perhaps Megumi at times. During his jobs he proves to be very cool-headed, not worried about surviving or not, just focused on how to make things easy.

However, his careless attitude is not always present. With the Star Plasma Vessel contract he wanted to prove that he could compete with the best sorcerers in the world even without having curse energy. He was desperately looking for a reason to be prideful and get back to the Zen'in for disrespecting him. His interest in life seems to be just money, money to buy weapons, food and gambling on boat racing, or any kind of racing really. He never questioned his clients motives or interest, he never took a part on normal family activities, he was just overall cold and distant, living in a world of his own most of his life.

Working As An Assassin

His main role in the series, other than being Megumi's father, is his contract with the Time Vessel Association to hunt down the Star Plasma Vessel, Riko Amani. To accomplish that feat they offered him 30 million yen. Unfortunately for him, Riko is being guarded by the allegedly two strongest sorcerers of the moment, assigned to the protection duties by Master Tengen himself, Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto.

It seems like Toji has done some assassination jobs in the past, sorcerers mainly and got kind of a reputation as being the best at it. His sheer strength and undetectable nature help killing sorcerers and for this job concerning the bearer of the Six Eyes there is literally no one better. Although he obviously loses eventually, Toji humbled Gojo in a major way as the one and only sorcerer who managed to win a fight against him.
