Warning: This contains spoilers for the Jujutsu Kaisen anime and manga.

For those of you who might not know, Satoru Gojo was killed by Ryomen Sukuna. Since he was one of the most beloved characters in the series, the fans kept hoping that the mighty Satoru Gojo would return from the land of the dead somehow. However, the series made it clear that he won't be back. He had regrets, but he was happy that he died at the hands of the strongest in history, rather than something boring like dying of old age.

That said, it doesn’t stop the fans from formulating all kinds of theories and reasons about why and how he will be back. So let us partake in this “What If” exercise. Because we know somebody who could’ve summoned Satoru from the underworld. She was a minor character who barely had any screen time in Jujutsu Kaisen, but her unique curse technique made it possible to resurrect anybody from death. Her name was Ogami, and here’s how she could revive Satoru Gojo.

An Incredibly Powerful Curse User With All The Wrong Motivations

Before we get to the details of how she would resurrect Satoru Gojo, let’s talk about Granny Ogami first. Ogami had been a Curse User for as long as she could remember. However, rather than using her skills and knowledge to help humanity deal with the dangerous terror of the cursed spirits like the people from the Jujutsu High, Ogami used her cursed technique to be an incredibly efficient and ruthless assassin.

It’s unclear when Ogami started to become a professional assassin, one thing’s for sure, she was one of the top in the field for decades. Be it regular humans or fellow cursed users, there’s nobody that Ogami wouldn’t kill for the right amount of money. Young or old, rich or poor, male or female, she killed her targets indiscriminately. She would even go as far as killing the child in order to get to the father.

For most of her career, Ogami worked together with another bloodthirsty cursed user/assassin named Jiro Awasaka. They usually took on different targets, but once in a while, a client would come up and ask either of them to kill a particularly powerful target. That’s when these two deranged monsters join forces to murder the target and collect the exuberant amount of reward money. These two were still actively accepting assassination contracts and killed people left and right well into their twilight years. In fact, Granny Ogami was 87 years old when we saw them in the Shibuya Incident Arc.

The Seance Technique That Let Ogami Play God

Ogami’s innate cursed ability was called the Seance Technique. It was a technique that allowed Ogami to transform herself or other willing participants into another person. There’s no limit to the person that she can imitate. Be it man or woman, old or young, she could turn into anybody. She was the ultimate shapeshifter.

Furthermore, Ogami not only could mimic the physique of a person, but she could use the full physical capability of the person that she transformed into as well. The transformation would continue until she either turned it off or ran out of cursed energy. One thing’s worth noting, however, was the fact that Ogami could only use this technique on a dead person. That means she could only transform herself, or another individual, into someone who was already dead.

Ogami’s seance technique worked by summoning the body’s information of the person that she wanted to transform into. She would then apply that information to herself, or another willing participant, to transform into the dead person. In a way, this ability is quite similar to the Impure World Reincarnation Jutsu from Naruto. Ogami could technically summon the soul’s information as well, but that would mean losing control of the transformed body, which was bad news for her.

How Ogami Could’ve Resurrected Satoru Gojo

During the Shibuya Incident Arc, Ogami transformed her grandson into one of the most ruthless assassins that the jujutsu world has ever seen, Toji Zenin. As usual, she summoned the information about Toji’s body and applied it to her grandson, therefore granting his grandson Toji’s ungodly physical prowess. Unfortunately for her, Toji’s consciousness somehow managed to take over the mind and body of Ogami’s grandson. Because of this, Toji has effectively returned from the dead.

The same principle could technically work on Satoru Gojo as well. All Ogami needed to do was summon Gojo’s body and soul information, and then apply it to the body of a suitable and willing person. If Toji could use his sheer willpower and determination to completely take over a person’s body, it is safe to assume that Gojo could at least do the same thing. It’s true that in the process, a living human has to sacrifice himself to resurrect Gojo, but that’s the heavy price that has to be paid in order to bring somebody back from the realm of death. It’s up to the living people to decide whether or not that is a price that they are willing to pay.

Ethical question aside, why didn’t Ogami resurrect Satoru Gojo? Well, the answer is simply because she is no longer alive. Once Toji forcefully took control of her grandson’s body, he immediately killed Ogami. Had she still been alive right now, Ogami would have been the fastest and easiest way to get Satoru Gojo back in action. But since she is no longer with us, the best scenario would be to find somebody who has a similar cursed technique as Ogami. Otherwise, Satoru Gojo won’t be able to return to the land of the living.
