Highlights

  • Megumi Fushiguro has become a pawn in Sukuna's plan, being possessed by the King of Curses and forced to do terrible things.
  • Sukuna's fight against Gojo resulted in Sukuna's body being severely damaged, leaving him unable to use his powers properly.

Megumi Fushiguro is one of the main characters in Jujutsu Kaisen and certainly one that fans adore. Along with Itadori and Nobara, he serves as one of the most important characters in moving the plot forward in JJK. While Megumi has played a very important role so far, he has, lately, found himself in very troublesome situations.

More recently in the story, Sukuna, the King of Curses, finally made his move and made Megumi his next target after Itadori. As a result, Megumi was subject to some extreme treatment, and in Jujutsu Kaisen 237, things went from bad to worse for him as Sukuna returned to his true form. Fans are, of course, wondering as to what happened to Megumi and that is a question that will haunt everyone for quite a while.

Sukuna In Megumi's Body

Jujutsu Kaisen began with Sukuna manifesting inside the body of Itadori. He stayed there for quite a long time, however, it wasn't long until he made new plans for his reincarnation. Right from the beginning, Sukuna had something special marked for Megumi and his interest in him was very special. Even during the Shibuya incident, where Megumi called forth the Divine General, Mahoraga, and ended up on the verge of death, it was Sukuna who ended up healing him and saved his life. Of course, this was not because the King of Curses was feeling generous.

This was simply because he had better use for him. Eventually, his plan was brought forth and it was revealed that he wanted to take over his body and make things even more tense in the story. Sukuna succeeded in his ploy and ever since then, Megumi has simply been a pawn in his sick game. Megumi has done terrible things and killed people he would never even dare to harm. He has fought against his own teacher and also killed him, all thanks to Sukuna possessing him. His character has suffered quite a bit and, by the looks of it, he does not have anything to live for at the moment. Everything that he holds dear is now lost but that certainly isn't the worst of it all, as Megumi himself is endangered, now more so than ever before, after the events of JJK 237.

Sukuna Beaten Up

Quite easily, the most significant part of Sukuna in Megumi's body was when he fought against Gojo. This fight was the clash of the strongest that fans had been waiting years for and it certainly delivered. It went on for months and was certainly an exciting one, with each chapter putting in incredible twists and turns that kept everyone on the edge of their seats. Gojo did more than well against Sukuna and pushed him to the very extremes. He nearly defeated him in combat, however, at the end of it all, due to some very questionable writing decisions, Gojo ended up being killed off. It was Sukuna who came out on top and he killed Gojo with a powerful slash that cut through his body, chopping it in half. Of course, this also meant that the person who killed Gojo was none other than Megumi himself. Knowing that, Megumi would be utterly devastated, given that Gojo was a parental figure to him.

That said, the fight between Gojo and Sukuna only served as more setup for things to get worse for Megumi. As expected, Sukuna was heavily beaten in the fight against Gojo. In fact, he was on the verge of losing and would have, had it not been for the 10 Shadows Technique. This technique saved him from defeat, however, it did not save him from accumulating a tremendous amount of damage. He lost his left hand, one of his eyes, and his entire body was left in tatters. He could not use Domain Expansion, thanks to Gojo frying his brain, or rely on Domain Amplification, which was yet another ability that Gojo ended up taking from him. To top it all off, his Reverse Cursed Technique was busted as well and he could not even heal properly.

The Return Of True Form Sukuna

Sukuna Reincarnated True Form

Right after the death of Gojo, it was Kashimo who jumped into action and challenged Sukuna. This fight was a very exciting one and Kashimo, for the very first time, ended up revealing his cursed technique. He landed some powerful blows on Sukuna and did some damage to him. Even though Sukuna received his powerful cursed tool, it was not enough to hold his own against Kashimo and he ended up taking blow after blow until he was pushed into a corner. At this point, it was clear that he just had to go all out.

A few chapters ago, the possibility of Sukuna holding on to a trump card was brought up. At the time, fans could not quite make out what this trump card was going to be, however, it was made clear that he certainly held one up his sleeve that he would bring out at a later point in time. That is precisely what happened in JJK 237, as Sukuna started the process of reincarnation in Megumi's body. For the very first time in a millennium, the true Sukuna returned. It was quite clear to see that he was revitalized, just by looking at his true body take shape. He has four arms, multiple eyes, and a very muscular build that towers over most. The return of Sukuna in his true form raises the question of what exactly happened to Megumi and where his story is going to go from here onwards.

The Fate Of Megumi - Is Megumi Fushiguro Dead?

Sukuna and Megumi

Megumi was a very important character in the story, however, it appears that he is not going to be relevant anytime soon. Sukuna clearly possessed his body with this goal of reincarnation and that is something that he has finally achieved now. The process of reincarnation is by using Megumi's body as a base. This means that whatever body Megumi had, has now assimilated with Sukuna and, by the looks of it, there is no way to save him. By all means, Megumi is gone for the moment and fans should take this to mean that he is dead for now.

The only way Megumi's body could be retrieved is if Sukuna is killed. At some point in the story, Sukuna very well might be killed and when that happens, it is possible that Megumi might be saved. However, that is based on a massive assumption that his body is still intact. Judging by the way things went in the previous chapter, Megumi completely assimilated into Sukuna's body, which means there is no Megumi left anymore. Furthermore, Megumi has already taken a tremendous amount of damage in the fight against Gojo, even being hit by Unlimited Void. If he somehow survives that, then fans should consider that when Sukuna falls, so will his body and, with that, so will Megumi. It appears that Jujutsu Kaisen has killed off another character and this time, it's the fan favorite, Megumi Fushiguro.

Jujutsu Kaisen is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of JJK, Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 237, is set to be October 1, 2023.
