Sukuna is the primary antagonist in JJK, and also the strongest sorcerer in the entire history of the show. Born in the Heian era, Sukuna built himself up to become a very powerful sorcerer, and ever since then, he has remained undefeated. Sukuna turned himself into a cursed object, and he reappeared in modern times, where he eventually reincarnated in the body of Megumi Fushiguro. Currently, Sukuna is up against the sorcerers, and he has, unsurprisingly, held his own against them very well.

Yuji and Maki could team up to take down the king of Curses Sukuna in JJK.

While he has done incredibly well throughout the entirety of the Culling Game arc, there are quite a lot of interesting decisions that the author has taken in regards to this particular individual. These decisions have made fans wonder as to whether Sukuna has too much plot armor, given that he always lucks out, one way or another.

Sukuna's Insurmountable Strength

The very first thing that fans need to consider when it comes to Sukuna's plot armor is his incredible strength. Sukuna is the strongest sorcerer in history, and, as a result, for someone as strong as him, defeat comes rarely, if ever. Fans have seen him in combat on many occasions now. Every single time that Sukuna fights a battle, he is able to come out on top, and this is not simply due to plot armor, but it is down to the incredible strength that he has built up over the years. His understanding of cursed energy is at a level far above the vast majority of the sorcerers, apart from the likes of Gojo. He has many other advantages over every sorcerer that has existed over the years, and these things have certainly even built up right from the beginning of the story. As such, these cannot be classified as plot armor.

For instance, Sukuna has an extra pair of arms and a mouth. The arms allow him to use hand signs, while his mouth allows him to use incantations. These extra abilities make sure that Sukuna is able to utilize unique abilities or attack with the full power of his basic powers. Furthermore, fans should also keep in mind that Sukuna, regardless of what fans think about him, is at the pinnacle of the Jujutsu world. He has mastered every single aspect of power to such a degree that no one can compete with him, no matter what.

When taking all these things into consideration, it becomes quite easy to see as to why Sukuna is very difficult to take down, and why he often lucks out. Most of the time, Sukuna's luck that helps him out is a result of his very own strength, and the circumstances that his incredible strength ends up creating. That said, there are quite a few times in the story where Sukuna could have died, however, the plot was way too convenient for him to die in the ordeal that he was up against, and as a result, he ended up surviving.

Sukuna Lucking Out On Too Many Occasions

Sukuna has lucked out in JJK on many occasions already. For instance, in the Culling Game arc, Angel successfully utilized her cursed technique on Sukuna, and as she did that, Sukuna would most certainly have been cleansed out of Megumi's body. This should have been the end of him, as Jacob's Ladder is quite a dangerous technique for anyone to be hit with. Despite that, Sukuna was able to trick Angel into believing that Megumi had returned. This was a trick that should not have food to the likes of Angel, but it did work, and as a result, Sukuna was resurgent once again and his luck was quite evident here to the fans.

If that wasn't enough, Sukuna lucked out again in the fight against Gojo. While this was a fight that was largely even, Sukuna was able to see help from the likes of Mahoraga in combat to get a blueprint to bypass gorgeous Infinity. Once he did that, Sukuna once again relied on plot armor. This came in the form of his World Splitting Slash being able to cut Gojo. As fans have seen recently, the World Slash was something that Maki could easily dodge. Yet, Gojo, a person who possesses six eyes and should therefore see cursed energy down to its very intricate details, was not able to see this technique.

Maki has shown what she's truly capable of against Sukuna.

This is clearly a plot hole in the story, and, as a result, plot armor for Sukuna, who should not have been able to kill Gojo with this technique, no matter what. That certainly isn't all. In the most recent fight that Sukuna fought against the likes of Yuta and Yuji, the duo was actually doing incredibly well. Sukuna's cursed energy output was dropping the more Yuji was hitting him, and all that was left was for Megumi to take his hand.

However, surprisingly, Megumi rejected the helping hand because he did not want to live any longer. As a result, Sukuna was saved once again, when he very clearly could have died. All this just goes to show that the author certainly has been way too lenient on Sukuna, and that there are many instances in the story apart from the ones mentioned above too where he could easily have died.

Does Sukuna Have Too Much Plot Armor?

When talking about the question of whether Sukuna has too much plot armor, one needs to consider various factors. The first and the most important factor is that Sukuna is just that strong. For the strongest to beat the vast majority of the characters is not a surprise. That part of it is certainly not blood armor. However, when one considers the fact that Sukuna lucks out on every occasion where he is close to death, or is actually able to do the impossible, then he certainly does have too much plot armor in that sense. Even in the fight against Maki, he was able to keep his heart beating and heal from soul damage. Soul damage is something that fans did not know could be healed until recently, and now, Sukuna can even heal from that, which, once again, just goes to show that the author simply invents ways for him to survive any obstacle that he is up against.

With JJK continuously edging closer to its end, Sukuna has to fall at some point. When that point comes, fans can only hope that the ending is satisfactory. Sukuna surviving a couple of times in the story is acceptable, even when he is in a grave situation. However, this happening repeatedly is rather annoying for the fans and repetitive as well. Hopefully, fans can finally get to see a proper fight with Sukuna, which is fought along the principles that have already been established in the series, and at the same time, one that sees the end of the King of Curses for good.

Jujutsu Kaisen is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of JJK, Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 253, is set to be March 10, 2024.
