Nobara is one of the main characters in Jujutsu Kaisen and over the first few arcs of the story, her importance was highlighted by the author time and again. This trio was looked over by none other than Gojo and, together, they went on multiple missions to exorcize various curses.

Although very raw in terms of talent, all of them possess tremendous potential and they can one day reach extremely massive heights in the world of Jujutsu Sorcery. Nobara is very powerful herself and, over the years, the many battles that she has fought go on to prove that she is not to be underestimated. Unfortunately, Nobara met a very cruel fate in the Shibuya arc of JJK, where she was killed by none other than Mahito. However, there might be a chance for her to return in the story later on.

Nobara's Importance in Jujutsu Kaisen

Nobara-Jujutsu-Kaisen-Nail

Nobara is a very important character. For starters, she is a part of the main trio of the story and that puts her right next to Megumi and Yuji. While it is clear that Yuji is the most important character, given that he is the protagonist of the entire story, both Megumi and Nobara are somewhat important as well. That is precisely why they tag along with Yuji on most missions and they fight together on many occasions. Fans have seen that in the first few arcs of the story, where, together, these three have fought some of the strongest curses, including even Special Grade Curses.

Yuji and Nobara have been seen fighting together as well, especially in the battle against Eso and Kechizu, where the duo was disposed of by these two powerful sorcerers. It is clear that these characters, including Nobara, are the future of the Jujutsu world and, for that reason, the importance that is assigned to them is incredibly high. At the same time, they also possess some of the most incredible techniques that automatically make them very important to the story. For instance, Megumi has the 10 Shadows Technique, and fans already know that this Inherited Cursed Technique is so strong that in the past, a user of this technique was strong enough to match a user of both the Limitless and the Six Eyes, just like Gojo.

When it comes to Nobara, she does not possess any special technique, however, her Straw Doll Technique, using which she facilitates Soul Resonance, is an incredibly dangerous power the threats of which are even felt by some of the most powerful characters in the entire verse, such as the likes of Mahito himself.

If that wasn't enough, then one should consider that Nobara is one of the few female characters in the world of JJK that can actually fight efficiently. In a world that is largely dominated by males, having somewhat of a balance is incredibly important. Sadly, JJK has suffered in this regard over the years and the female characters are hardly given any attention. Most of them are killed off or treated harshly, with only a few left that can actually be called well-written or important. Nobara was an incredibly important female character, that is, until she was killed in the events of Shibuya.

Nobara's Death in Jujutsu Kaisen's Shibuya Arc

In the Shibuya Incident arc, Nobara was somewhat important. While she did not play a role as crucial as the likes of Megumi and Yuji, she did engage in some very interesting fights. Clearly, her biggest fight came against none other than Mahito, who fans know to be one of the strongest curses to have ever lived. Mahito possessed an extremely incredible technique, however, the fact that he had split his body up meant that he could not use this technique using the half that was fighting Nobara. When these two characters fought, Nobara was largely in command in the battle and the fact that she possessed the power of Soul Resonance meant that she could harm his very soul and, at the same time, be a great danger to Mahito, something which he acknowledged himself.

These are the very best quotes said by Gojo Satoru in JJK.

Furthermore, every blow that Nobara dealt to him was felt by Mahito's main body as well and this made her doubly special. Her technique is incredibly versatile and dangerous and that is precisely why Mahito realized that getting rid of her as soon as possible would be the best way to move forward. That is what he ended up doing when he started running towards Yuji. His body that was fighting against Yuji and the body that was combating Nobara switched places and Nobara failed to see the incoming attack. With the power of Idle Transfiguration, Nobara was hit and this led to her soul being disrupted and a big part of her body being destroyed right on the spot.

The Ambiguity Of Nobara's Death

Nobara certainly ended up falling right there and then and fans also got a flashback of this character, which Gege usually only delivers when he has to kill off characters, which some would call a lazy manner. Nobara’s entire life flashed in front of her eyes and she even bid farewell to Yuji when this happened. Clearly, the implication here was that Nobara ended up dying. However, it is Todo who arrived just around this time and he and his mate provided some care to Nobara. It was said that Nobara's injury was incredibly dangerous but there was a chance for her to survive. There was no guarantee as to whether she would end up surviving or not, however, the chance was certainly there. Fans did not find out much about her condition until much later in the story.

When Mahito ended up losing and the dust finally settled on the battleground, Yuji asked Megumi about Nobara's fate and he did not receive a reply. Yuji interpreted this to mean that Nobara was dead. However, technically, a direct confirmation regarding her death was never provided to the fans, and all that was said was that Nobara had a chance of survival.

Can Nobara Return?

Nobara Kugisaki

All things taken into consideration, Nobara certainly can still be alive since fans did not see her die and a direct confirmation about her death was never provided. As to how she can survive, it is very hard to figure out, especially because Reverse Cursed Technique is known to not work on injuries caused by Idle Transfiguration. Only Mahito can alter the shape of the soul to fix injuries like that, however, at the same time, fans should remember that Nobara has skills pertaining to the soul herself. Maybe her ability to hurt the souls evolved in some way and, perhaps, she can save herself.

Or, perhaps there are other ways through which she can be healed or, at the very least, the rest of her is saved. Nobara doesn't have to be whole in order to be alive. Even if she received a major injury and a part of her body was destroyed to a point where it can't be repaired even with Reverse Cursed Technique, then whatever is left might still be enough for her to live. If that is the case, then fans should expect to see her at some point in the Culling Game arc. However, at this point, Nobara has been away from the story for over half of it and even if she does return, she will be another terribly written female character in the shounen world, especially in JJK, which is notoriously bad at handling the many women that the world possesses.

Jujutsu Kaisen is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of JJK, Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 244, is set to be December 3, 2023.
