With Todo and Gojo's return, its likely Nobara will also return in JJK.

This essentially means that fans will get to see Gojo vs Sukuna play out once again, and that round 2 of this battle is going to be one with a completely different outcome.

Gojo Vs Sukuna Round 1

Gojo Lost To Sukuna In Their First Proper Fight

Gojo vs Sukuna started in Shinjuku right at the beginning of the Shinjuku Showdown arc. This battle was incredibly exciting for the fans, as the two mightiest sorcerers in the world of JJK were finally clashing. This flash was first set up right at the beginning of the series, when Sukuna took over Yuji's body for the very first time. It was Gojo who ended up taking him down back then, but a clash between these two giants of sorcery was etched in stone there. When Gojo was sealed, fans knew that as soon as he returned, he was going to play a massive role in the story in one way or another.

Perhaps, some might have thought that it was too early for Gojo and Sukuna to fight when the battle began, however, given the speed at which the story has progressed and edged closer to its end, this was the perfect stage for these two sorcerers to clash. Gojo and Sukuna went against each other in Shinjuku, where Gojo launched a powerful Hollow Purple directly at Sukuna. This marked the beginning of this amazing battle that lasted over multiple chapters.

Through many domain clashes and exchanges of blows, fans were elated, witnessing this amazing battle take place. One of the biggest strengths of Jujutsu Kaisen Is the incredible action that the author manages to draw with great intensity. This intensity was amped with each passing chapter of Gojo versus Sukuna, and it is safe to say that every single reader was on the edge of their seats throughout this battle. Be it moments when Sukuna unleashed his Malevolent Shrine on Gojo, or when Gojo had the upper hand and victory in the palm of his hands, fans thoroughly enjoyed this battle which could have gone either way.

Farewell, Gojo Satoru! I shall never forget you for as long as I live.

Unfortunately, at the end of the fight, Gojo ended up losing his life. Sukuna, with the help of Mahoraga, was able to expand the target of his technique to the entire world and slice Gojo, bypassing his Infinity in the process. Gojo was cut up into pieces, and with that, the curtain fell on the strongest modern sorcerer.

Gojo Returns To The Battlefield

The Ghost Of The Strongest Returned To The Battlefield In Shinjuku

While Gojo was thought to be dead by most fans, there was always a glimmer of hope for him to return later down the line. The author made sure to keep both doors open. If Gojo had died, then the conclusion to his character arc, while not perfect, was still digestible. However, he also laid clues in his story that paved the way for Gojo's return, if he ever wanted to do that. For instance, the entire plot point about “Going North or Going South” after Gojo's death gave fans the idea that one could be born anew if they chose to go north.

Similarly, the whole idea of Gojo's body being transported to Shoko, someone who fans know can utilize reverse cursed technique very well on others and heal them, was yet another clue in plain sight that implied Gojo could potentially return later down the line. At the same time, the author probably also knows that Gojo is the face of the series throughout the world and that keeping him alive is more beneficial to the overall popularity of JJK.

Jujutsu Kaisen: The Ghost Of Gojo Satoru, Explained

Sukuna sees the ghost of Gojo in JJK 260. Is Gojo really back or is it simply a ghost?

If all that wasn't enough, then fans also knew that Gojo's character arc had not finished, and the conclusion wasn't perfect. Above all, this was the most important reason why many believed that Gojo would eventually return. In JJK chapter 260, all their theories ended up being true as Gojo Satoru made his return on the last page of the chapter. Just when Sukuna was hit by a powerful strike by Yuji, ripping directly into his chest and going for his heart, he tried to expand his domain once again. This was made possible by him refilling his burnt-out cursed technique, giving him access to his domain once again. This could essentially have been the end of Yuji and Todo both, unless Todo was able to swap them out.

Sukuna had seen...what his hands had buried. The ghost of the strongest!

However, right in the midst of him expanding his domain, Sukuna saw a very familiar face that he buried himself, and this was none other than Gojo Satoru. His eyes were beaming down on Sukuna, with the narrator essentially implying that Gojo had returned.

How Gojo Vs Sukuna Round 2 Could Go

Gojo Vs Sukuna Round 2 Is Going To Be Very Different

From here onwards, Gojo versus Sukuna round 2 is inevitable. Fans know that this fight is going to be incredibly exciting, but it is going to be very different from their first fight in the story. For one, fans need to keep in mind that neither Gojo nor Sukuna are at the peak of their powers. While Sukuna does have access to his domain, his body is far from its very best. His reverse cursed technique is not nearly as good as it needs to be in order for him to win this fight, and, at the same time, his cursed energy output has been lowered significantly. With each black flash that he has received from Yuji, he has suffered terribly in battle, and now, his weaknesses can be exploited.

On the other hand, Gojo is most likely not going to be at his best either. Granted that Gojo could've been healed by Shoko and that he could likely access his domain and have his cursed technique active right from the get-go, however, it is highly likely that Gojo had to make a massive sacrifice in order to return. Binding Vows have been focused on quite a lot in the last few chapters of JJK, and it is entirely possible for him to have made one that would limit his abilities greatly in combat.

This is an essential point in the story, because if Gojo were at the peak of his powers, then dealing with a weakened Sukuna would be child's play for him. Furthermore, it will also end up taking away the spotlight from Yuji, the protagonist of the series. The author needs to craft this battle in a way where Yuji and Todo both get their moments of shine against the King of Curses, given that this is likely the very last battle in the story. As such, Gojo has to come back nerfed, or at least in a temporarily nerfed state, which would allow him to collaborate properly with Yuji in the battle against Sukuna. This would also give fans a student-teacher duo against the King of Curses, and a proper conclusion to this battle.

Jujutsu Kaisen is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of JJK, Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 261, is set to be May 26, 2024.
