Gojo is an extremely important character in Jujutsu Kaisen. In fact, it wouldn't be a stretch to say that he is arguably the most popular character in the entire story that fans latched themselves onto because of his incredible charisma and his overpowered abilities. Gojo was, undoubtedly, one of the very best characters not just in JJK but in current anime and manga in general.
Jujutsu Kaisen: How Strong Is Takaba?

Of course, being in a series such as JJK is never safe for any character and that also includes the strongest, such as Gojo. As fans might know by this point, Gojo is dead and he was killed by Sukuna when the two clashed in a much-awaited battle during the Culling Game arc. However, death doesn't have to be final for Gojo. There are certainly ways through which Gojo can return to the series and delight his fans once again.
How Gojo Died – Gojo Killed By Sukuna
Gojo versus Sukuna was a high-octane battle that fans absolutely adored. This battle began after Gojo was unsealed and eventually, preparations were made for this clash. Right from its beginning, it was clear that this fight would not be easy for either of these two fighters. It was the clash of the strongest in history against the strongest modern sorcerer and it was always going to be a thrilling experience for the fans. Right from the get-go, it was clear that they were evenly matched. Sukuna had finally met his match and someone who could push him beyond all his limits. Meanwhile, Gojo finally found someone to test his limits against, and throughout the fight, these two characters kept trying to one-up each other.
Of course, they had their differences in their fighting styles. Sukuna, who possessed more cursed energy, relied on his incredible Cursed Technique that allowed him to dice and dismantle. Meanwhile, Gojo made incredible use of Limitless and, at the same time, his amazing reverse cursed technique to make it so that his Cursed Technique became almost infinite. For the vast majority of the fight, Gojo certainly held the upper hand. Even though he did not have as much cursed energy, his efficiency while using his energy was incredibly amazing, which made it so that even Sukuna couldn't compare. Gojo was absolutely brilliant while fighting against Sukuna and he certainly got the upper hand on many occasions.
In fact, Gojo landed many deadly blows on Sukuna and the latter had to rely on the usage of the 10 Shadows Technique to put up an even fight. Had he been without this technique, it would have been even more difficult for Sukuna to combat Gojo. Not only was Megumi being used as a hostage against Gojo, but, at the same time, techniques such as Mahoraga or other Chimera Techniques that Sukuna used against him ended up being too difficult to deal with in battle.
Jujutsu Kaisen: Every Death In The Shibuya Arc
These deaths shocked fans in Jujutsu Kaisen's Shibuya Arc.
They certainly took a lot out of Gojo and this is the strategy that Sukuna used to whittle him down. However, the biggest reason why Gojo ended up dying was because the Divine General, Mahoraga, ended up giving Sukuna the blueprint to overcome the Infinity that was coating Gojo. It was only by watching Mahoraga that Sukuna was able to win. Eventually, he launched a powerful slash towards Gojo that could cut the entire world. The target for the slash was not Gojo but the entire world and the Infinity was included in it. As a result, the Infinity was bypassed and Gojo ended up being sliced apart in two.
Gojo's Previous Rebirth
When Gojo started fighting against Sukuna, it was quite clear to the fans that one of these two characters would face a devastating loss. However, not many fans predicted that this would be the place where Gojo would end up dying. At the end of the day, Gojo was an overpowered character who would, in many ways, hinder the growth of the next generation. Killing him off would be, in that regard, necessary in order to see the next generation prosper. However, at the same time, Gojo had his own story arcs and he wasn't simply a tool to progress other characters.
His own plot points were all abandoned and while that is indeed bad, it also gives fans hope that his story isn't over just yet.
This isn't the first time that Gojo has died in the series and this may not be the last one either. When Gojo fought against Toji, he was utterly crushed in battle and defeated. Gojo was left to die, however, this is when he tapped into the power of Reverse Cursed Technique for the very first time and learned how to heal. Gojo returned stronger than ever before and finished Toji off with a powerful Hollow Purple. If Gojo has returned once, he can certainly return again and fans are betting on that to happen.
Gojo's Return – Gojo Comes Back From The Dead
There is absolutely no certainty that Gojo will return from the dead. However, that said, a character such as Gojo can certainly return. When Gojo died, he had two possibilities in front of him. Going north and clinging to the version of himself and staying with everyone else that he knew who had died, or going south and seeking out a new version of himself. Fans do not get to see the choice that he made. However, knowing the person that Gojo is, he would likely end up going south. This could force Gojo to return as a newer version of himself.
This doesn't necessarily mean that Gojo will return stronger than ever before. It is possible that to return to life, Gojo would have to give an equivalent sacrifice, such as his Cursed Technique, or potentially more things such as the Six Eyes. However, this way, at the very least, Gojo can make a return.
Previously, fans were betting on Gojo to utilize his Reverse Cursed Technique to heal himself again since his brain was still intact. Gojo mentioned that as long as his brain isn't destroyed, he can always heal himself, even from death's door. However, it doesn't seem like he's going to be healing anytime soon. The story has progressed quite a lot ever since Gojo has died and he has not been showing any signs of rebirth. It is possible that he will receive help from a third party, such as Shoko, or Yuta. But, at the same time, it is also possible that Gojo will actually trigger a rebirth all by himself by sacrificing his powers and returning to life once again to watch over his students reach new heights and even surpass him as jujutsu sorcerers.
At the end of the day, Gojo has a dream that he wants to fulfill and that is to crush the current Jujutsu order and create a better world in his own way. That was his reason to become a teacher and he simply cannot give up on his goals just like that.
