Chapter 257 of Jujutsu Kaisen revealed the shocking truth about the link between Sukuna and Yuji Itadori. The fandom has long been waiting for this revelation, and this new information makes everything sense.

Sukuna and Yuji have been linked since the very beginning of Jujutsu Kaisen. While most people would have died upon ingesting Sukuna's finger, Yuji survived and, beyond that, could subdue the King of Curses. Nobody knew precisely why Yuji was able to do this, and everyone had their own theories, but now the truth has finally been unveiled. Yuji is the child of the reincarnation of Sukuna's twin brother, Jin Itadori, and Yuji's mom, who was Kenjaku's host body.

Jujutsu Kaisen: The Weird World of the Itadori Family

Chapter 257 of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga dropped a bombshell reveal about Yuji's already strange family, so let's see how it looks now.

Sukuna's Twin Brother

Jujutsu Kaisen Yuji and Sukuna

The chapter shows a flashback of a conversation between Sukuna and Uraume before Gojo's hollow purple while they were atop a building. Uraume asks Sukuna what makes Yuji unique because while she had laughed at him before, she had sensed something different about him that was reminiscent of Sukuna. The King of Curses confirms this to her, telling her that he is Kenjaku's child and that Kenjaku wouldn't have a child for no reason.

Sukuna proceeds to say that Kenjaku had a child with the reincarnation of his twin brother. He says how he had to eat his twin brother in the womb if he didn't want to starve to death because his mother didn't have enough to eat. Sukuna then states that he was unwanted by both his parents, which explains how he got started on the path that would lead him to become the King of Curses.

Sukuna explains that his twin's soul floated around through the centuries, randomly reincarnating over and over. While Sukuna doesn't explain how exactly Sukuna's twin's soul got to Jin Itadori, it is implied that Kenjaku might have had something to do with it.

Twins

Twins are extremely important in the jujutsu world because they are a bad omen. When twins are born into a jujutsu family, they can never reach their full potential. Mai and Maki Zenin are excellent examples of what happens when twins are born.

Maki could never realize the complete power of her heavenly restriction because she had a little bit of cursed energy in her body. Mai could only use her creation cursed technique once a day because she didn't have enough cursed energy to make the technique useful.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Sukuna's New High-Level Malevolent Shrine, Explained

Sukuna's altered Malevolent Shrine will be a huge test for the sorcerers in JJK.

Essentially, Sukuna eating his twin in the womb is one of the reasons he's so powerful. On the other hand, consuming his twin might be the very thing that kills him, as it is what made Yuji Itadori's existence possible. Sukuna's twin reincarnated aimlessly until they finally reached Jin Itadori. Jin, combined with Kenjaku, who had possessed Yuji's mom, created the person who could finally end Sukuna. Yuji was created to be a container for the King of Curses, but he ended up being much more.

There are still plenty of questions regarding Sukuna's twin. It is unclear whether Kenjaku somehow found and placed Sukuna's twin's soul into Jin Itadori or if they just ended up with Jin randomly. Itadori's bloodline is also a mystery. For example, are the Itadori's direct descendants of Sukuna? If this were the case, it would explain why Kenjaku would want to place Sukuna's twin's soul in Jin Itadori.

Yuji Itadori

Itadori

So, Yuji is the son of the reincarnation of Sukuna's twin, but what does that mean? For starters, it now makes complete sense why Yuji was able to subdue Sukuna within him when no one else could. He was created to be Sukuna's vessel, but it also explains how he can consume the death womb paintings. Yuji is the perfect vessel, thanks to his powerful ties to the King of Curses.

Later in the chapter, it is revealed that Yuji can use Sukuna's cursed technique, shrine, in addition to blood manipulation. Gojo predicted that Yuji would eventually be able to use Sukuna's cursed technique in Chapter 12, but the fact that he can use two cursed techniques makes sense because Sukuna has the shrine technique and the fuga flames.

The similarities between Sukuna and Yuji in appearance, techniques, and abilities are becoming increasingly apparent as the series goes on, and their strong ties through Kenjaku and Sukuna's twin perfectly explain why they're so similar.

Jujutsu Kaisen is available to stream on Crunchyroll.
