Kasumi Miwa, a second-year at Kyoto Jujutsu High, is a hardcore Satoru Gojo fan with long light blue hair with uneven bangs. As one of the most level-headed out of her group of jujutsu sorcerers, Kasumi is shown to have come from a poor background, which explains her vigor and determination to become stronger.
She wants to make money being a sorcerer, so she can help her two younger brothers, showing her to be a responsible and resilient character in the series. However, Kasumi also doesn't believe in herself and also calls herself 'useless'. She fears that she is a burden to her peers but is able to muster the courage when needed.
Who Is She?
Even though jujutsu sorcerers are meant to be ruthless and follow a senior's orders, Kasumi on the other hand, has more morale in her. When the principal of Kyoto Jujutsu High, Yoshinobu Gakuganji, ordered his students to kill Yuji during the Goodwill event arc, Kasumi silently disobeys this without speaking up about it, showing her value for human life. Being the eldest in the family, she believes that the responsibility of looking after her siblings falls onto her shoulders, showing her caring and committed personality. She wanted to avoid being a problem to her family, but rather a provider. Having no knowledge of sword technique and combat, Kasumi trained under a mentor to become stronger.
As an avid fan of Satoru Gojo, it's safe to think that Kasumi believes that Gojo is someone she can look up to as a source of inspiration to become a better jujutsu sorcerer. During her fight against Maki, she realizes that Maki is a lot faster and stronger than she is and is easily overpowered. Kasumi understands the meaning of true strength as Maki lands powerful attacks on her and even manages to grab her sword from her, leaving Kasumi helpless. Kasumi is also easily defeated when Toge Inumkai calls her phone and puts her to sleep by saying the words "sleep" during the Goodwill event arc, showing that she can easily be defeated. To make matters worse, she answers the phone by introducing herself as "useless" Miwa.
Cursed Techniques and Abilities
As a grade 3 jujutsu sorcerer, Kasumi is not the strongest out of her peers but is able to use swordsmanship techniques to some extent. Because she does not possess a lot of innate curse techniques, she depends a lot on her determination and willingness to become stronger. This does not mean that Kasumi is weak, as she is seen to exorcise several curses during the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons, where she easily slices cursed spirits in half using her New Shadow Style technique. Due to her lack of innate technique, she is unable to execute powerful moves but is able to execute techniques such as Simple Domain, a technique that allows the user to create a relatively small barrier around themselves to either protect themselves from domain expansion or land a successful attack on someone who enters the domain. However, this does not apply to stronger opponents. This is seen when Yuji was able to maneuver and dodge Kasumi's attack even though she was using simple domain to land her attack on him.
Batto sword drawing technique is one of Kasumi's unique techniques that gives her the ability to imbue cursed energy onto her sword, increasing her sword drawing speed and the power of the strike. She is seen attempting to land this technique on Kenjaku but is unable to do so due to his speed and reflexes as he catches her sword midway and breaks it. While not being the strongest character in the series so far, Kasumi has the potential to become a powerful character in the series. Fans speculate that she will play a pivotal role as her failures get the better of her, and she turns her weakness into fuel for her fire to become stronger.
