Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 236 delivered an incredibly shocking twist to the fans and left them completely speechless. Moments after setting up a victory for Gojo in the fight against Sukuna, the author completely flipped the script and it was revealed that the latter had actually won the battle.
Gojo Satoru, who is, most likely, the most popular character in the entire JJK series, was eventually killed off in the chapter. Sukuna evolved in the middle of the battle and utilized a completely new technique to get rid of Gojo, which left the fans completely shocked. Although the death of Gojo has been confirmed, there might still be a chance for his return to the series.
How Did Gojo Die
Gojo fought an extended battle with Sukuna and it is safe to say that this was the very best fight in the entirety of Jujutsu Kaisen so far. This is the fight that fans had been waiting for ever since the very beginning of the story as it had been hyped up quite a lot. The strongest sorcerer of modern times against the strongest sorcerer in history made up for quite a match and it certainly did deliver. Throughout the fight, fans were incredibly excited to see Gojo try his very best against the strongest of all time and, as expected of a genius like him, he was putting up an incredible fight.
In fact, it wouldn't be a stretch to say that Gojo was actually dominating the entire fight. Sukuna was on the ropes the entire time and even while on the defense, Gojo actually did far better than Sukuna in this entire clash. That is precisely why his death hit so much harder because it felt undeserved. Essentially, Sukuna used the power of Mahoraga to create a model for himself. Using the adaptation of the Shikigami, he got rid of Infinity.
The first way in which Mahoraga got rid of Infinity was not the model that Sukuna was looking for. Essentially, Sukuna completely adapted to infinity and changed the nature of its cursed energy to bypass the Infinity. This was something that Sukuna could not replicate so he patiently waited for another model. As the fight continued, Mahoraga evolved even further. In the next technique, he performed a slash-based attack that cut the space between Gojo and him, including the Infinity. This is precisely what Sukuna was looking for. Although this was a near impossible technique to pull off, he was successfully able to do it and by changing his target from Gojo to the entire world itself, he was able to slice through Infinity and cut up Gojo as well.
The North And The South
Immediately after Gojo died, fans saw him in a conversation with his fellow friends. Gojo had amassed a lot of friends in his life, however, no one was as close to him as Suguru. Immediately after moving to the limbo between life and death, Gojo met Suguru and that is how fans found out that the strongest modern sorcerer had died. The two talked about Sukuna and how it felt for Gojo to fight him. Gojo mentioned that he felt sad for Sukuna since he was alone at the top and did not know what love was. He wanted his feelings to reach him through combat, however, Gojo felt that he failed at this task. That said, Gojo did not die with regrets but his only wish was that Suguru was there to cheer him on in the battle.
Nanami also showed up in this place between life and death and told Gojo that Mei once mentioned the concept of the South and the North to him. Essentially, after passing, one can go in either of these directions. If the person wants to say the same and stay true to their roots, they should go south, however, if the person wants to see a new version of themselves, then they should go north. Nanami clearly stayed in the south, as he mentioned himself and it appears that the vast majority of those who die also end up choosing sound. However, fans do not know what Gojo chose. It is quite possible that Gojo will end up choosing north and that would mean seeking out a new version of himself, possibly through a potential rebirth.
Gojo's Reverse Cursed Technique
Speaking of ways for Gojo to return, it is hard to recover from the level of damage that he has taken. For one, his body has been bisected and he has also lost one of his arms. That said, Gojo has recovered from similar situations before. He has survived an onslaught of Malevolent Shrine previously and had his entire body chopped and diced with countless slashes. Despite all that, his Reverse Curse Technique was more than enough to heal him within a matter of seconds. Gojo possesses an extraordinary Reverse Curse Technique and he can certainly use it once again here.
The fact is, that Gojo had his Reverse Cursed Technique returned to him after he landed Black Flashes in succession. Having his technique completely filled out meant that he was back at his best, however, that is exactly when Sukuna's attack struck. As the attack certainly is lethal, Gojo's Reverse Curse Technique is also filled out. This means that, no matter what, he should still be able to heal his body and continue pressing forward. Perhaps, the attack was so powerful that his healing might've slowed down and it is possible that he will slowly start getting better and eventually, get back up on his feet.
Shoko Ieri And Yuta Okkotsu
Fans should also remember that Shoko and Yuta are both close by as well. Both of them possess the ability to use the Reverse Cursed Technique as well. Shoko, especially, is certainly one of the very best users of this skill in the entirety of JJK. She has had little to no shine in the entire series up to this point and it is possible that this might be her time to shine. She can heal people with her own Reverse Curse Technique and that is certainly something that could help in this situation. Furthermore, Yuta also possesses incredible control over Reverse Cursed Technique and he can also heal others with it. Although his proficiency with this skill might not be as great as Shoko, if the two combine their skills, perhaps, Gojo might just be saved.
This can be further aided by the fact that Gojo himself can use this technique as well. If they heal him to a point where he can utilize it himself as well, then it is beyond any doubt that Gojo can be saved. In his fight against Toji, Gojo made it quite clear that as long as his head stays intact, he cannot die. Once again, Gojo has his head intact and Sukuna could be making the very same mistake as Toji, which could come back to haunt him later down the line.
If Gojo does return somehow by going north, then another way to have him return to the series is by making a great enough sacrifice. If Gojo gives up his Cursed Technique in exchange for his life, then he can come back to the series and, at the same time, not stop the story from moving forward because he would not be defined as the strongest anymore.
