Jordan Peele's new movie Nope will premiere next week, merging horror and sci-fi in what’s already been teased as a mysterious alien movie with the director’s usual brand of social commentary. However, the latest previews take things one step further by calling the film “an absolute spectacle.”

Peele, who made his horror debut in the critically acclaimed Get Out, has said his main goal with Universal's Nope was to create a “great American UFO story,” albeit one that dabbles into the rest of the themes the director is associated with, including comedy. Nope stars Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer as siblings OJ and Emerald Haywood, respectively, with the rest of the cast being rounded off by the likes of Steven Yeun, Brandon Perea, Michael Wincott, Wrenn Schmidt, Donna Mills, and Barbie Ferreira.

The final Nope trailer did confirm the film's alien threat that fans of Peele's work had speculated about in prior months. Now, a couple of new teaser clips posted on Twitter do little to provide further clues about the movie. Instead, they’re more about hyping up Nope ahead of its July release, especially the second one that shows a bit more of the film’s action as the flying saucer crashes the Haywood farm.

Overall, promotional efforts for the film have been quite extensive, with Nope getting its own Universal Studios theme park. Based on one of the movie’s own locations, the Jupiter's Claim park, the new attraction will of course open the same day the movie comes out. Peele has confessed that he wrote Nope during a time when he was “worried about the future of cinema” in the middle of 2020, which is why he might have hoped this is the type of movie that drives people to theaters.

Some early fan theories have speculated whether Nope is really about aliens in the first place, as it would be incredibly on-brand for the director to misdirect audiences in such a way. Many might be curious to see how Peele blends the UFO genre with his usual exploration of Blackness, especially at a time when the director has doubled down on the role race plays in his filmmaking vision.

Nope is just one of the recent highly-anticipated horror films, which include The Black Phone, though that one is a novel adaptation rather than a completely original screenplay.

Nope is scheduled for release in theaters on July 22, 2022.
