The plot of John Wick: Chapter 4 is simple like they all are. John wants something, but a higher power deprives him of it, so he goes on a killing rampage. That’s a generic summary of a story that actually does have some good moments in it.

John Wick: Chapter 4 is full of action but there are plenty of heartfelt moments as well. Also, it’s not without comedy to help give the audience some time away from all of the bloodshed, with the best quotes from John Wick: Chapter 4 capable of evoking a wide range of emotions.

This article contains major spoilers for John Wick: Chapter 4.

1 “Yeah…Not Really.”

John in John Wick Chapter 4

“Yeah” is kind of like John’s catchphrase at this point. It’s his first line in the movie after the Bowery King asks if John is ready to go into battle. The funniest reading of this line in the movie is when he guns down The Elder in the desert.

When The Elder refuses to give John back his freedom, John does what he does best: kill. This opening action in general is a great way to open an action movie, let alone John Wick: Chapter 4.

2 “It Has Been An Honor, My Friend.”

Charon in John Wick Chapter 4

One of the saddest pieces of news leading up to the release of this movie was the passing of Lance Reddick. He’s been a part of this series since the beginning and dying right before release is just a shame.

It’s even worse given that his character in John Wick: Chapter 4, Charon, dies at the hand of The Marquis. In his dying breath, he tells Winston how much he has appreciated their bond. It’s a sad moment but it at least leads Winston to exact a masterful plan for revenge.

3 “Friend Means Little When It’s Convenient.”

Shimazu in John Wick Chapter 4

This line was said by Shimazu, the Manager of the Osaka branch of the assassin’s guild. He tells John that no matter what, he has his back even if that means he is going to die alongside his hotel. Shimazu is a man of honor and a badass samurai too.

It’s great to see the actor, Hiroyuki Sanada, get some much-deserved action in this movie. He had his moments in Bullet Train, but none of them were as blood-pumping as his scenes in John Wick: Chapter 4.

4 “Happy Hunting.”

The Marquis in John Wick Chapter 4

The Marquis, at first, seems to be nothing but threats given by a fancy boy who likes to change into different suits. It’s not until he stabs The Tracker that the audience is shown how devious The Marquis can really be.

After negations are done, The Marquis tells The Tracker “Happy Hunting” as if nothing dramatic just happened. Bill Skarsgård always plays a good villain, such as Pennywise in It. He’s not as creepy in John Wick: Chapter 4 but he is still sinister.

5 “What You’re So Good At Getting At John, Revenge.”

Winston in John Wick Chapter 4

John is a man who's not to be messed with as he has the devil’s trigger finger. However, there’s more to winning the assassination game than killing and Winston proves that. At Charon’s gravesite, Winston proposes the idea of the dual with The Marquis to John.

When John asks what Winston wants out of this, he says this line about revenge. John seems confused but Winston knows exactly what he is doing and revenge is exactly what Winston gets.

6 “The Moment You Sat Down At My Table You Already Lost.”

Killa in John Wick Chapter 4

Killa is the most charismatic villain in the movie and also gets one heck of a death in the John Wick franchise. He is overjoyed at the idea that John wants to kill him, and that Caine, The Tracker, and himself want to kill John. This leads to them playing a game of cards to determine who gets to kill who.

Killa, of course, is cheating the whole time. He says this line right before chaos erupts in his club. He may have thought he had the winning hand, but Killa didn’t realize how powerful these assassins really were.

7 “I Think It’s Time We Paint Him Red.”

The DJ in John Wick Chapter 4

The final set piece in John Wick: Chapter 4 takes place in Paris and there are a lot of smaller action moments within the city. After John and The Marquis have their meeting about the dual, John retreats to wait until sunrise. The thing is, The Marquis doesn’t plan on letting John live until sunrise, so he sends a bunch of assassins after him.

The DJ is a nameless character that keeps broadcasting John’s location along with flipping on great songs to kill to. When she says this line about painting John red, she plays a French version of “Paint It Black." This was originally recorded by The Rolling Stones. Another great song in this sequence is “Nowhere to Run", which is sung by Lola Colette.

8 “But I Can Hit You Motherf…”

Caine in John Wick Chapter 4

Caine is chosen to be The Marquis’ stand-in dualist for the match. Caine hates this idea because John is his friend and he also thinks The Marquis is a coward. On his way up the stairs to the church, John is thrown back down to the bottom.

Even though they are about to fight to the death in mere minutes, Caine helps John fight back up the stairs. They encounter Chidi here, The Marquis’ right-hand man. Chidi reminds Caine he can’t kill him, but Caine retorts by pointing out that he can hit back. Caine, overall, is shown to be a complete badass despite him being a blind warrior.
