One of Marvel Studios' highly-beloved directors has discussed how the production company operates. The director, Joe Russo, has revealed that Marvel Studios doesn't actually have a plan when it comes to how they handle their MCU. releases.

Marvel Studios is currently on top when it comes to comic book movies and the box office. The studio is undefeated with back-to-back releases that dominate theaters and keep fans returning for more. Now, Russo has revealed why having no plan is the best plan for Marvel Studios.

Speaking to Deadline at the Sands International Film Festival of St. Andrews in Scotland, the director went on to say, "The way it works at Marvel, and I'm sure at some point somebody will talk in detail about this, but part of [Marvel Studios president] Kevin [Feige]'s brilliance is that there isn’t really a plan." This might sound alarming to some, but this is how Marvel Studios is actually able to stay relevant while also allowing room for quick last-minute changes and flexibility. While on paper it makes more sense to have an overarching narrative to achieve, that method runs the risk of trapping Marvel Studios in a corner without room to adapt. If an idea doesn't work, then they'll be stuck with the decision they made.

"There's an idea, but you can't have a plan if the movie you’re making tanks. There’s no plan after that. Right? So, it's really about, as the movie succeeded, there was sort of an enthusiasm about well, what else could we do?" the director continued. "And then that's when new ideas would come out, And there were hopes. Oh, we hope one day that we can get to the story, if we keep doing this right maybe we could all get there, you know, like Infinity War and Endgame. But a lot of the stuff was made up in between the movies. And some of the best call forwards or callbacks were thought of after the fact."

So what it sounds like is that each phase has an "endgame" for where it's going to go, but the way it gets there is something that is open to discussion. For example, they know they want to bring the X-Men into the MCU, but the way they achieve that is up in the air. Marvel Studios' plans can come to fruition in any number of ways, so anybody's guess is as good as theirs.

This also may be how Marvel Studios is able to avoid spoilers and keep secrets in the era of things being leaked. DC is notorious for having whole plots, characters, and even creative directions being leaked before the first trailer is even released. For example, The Flash is highly discussed in almost every pop-culture media outlet due to the amount of information that's available right now about the film.

Most Marvel Studios films are now available on Disney Plus.
