The MCU's upcoming Fantastic Four film has seen its share of casting rumors, and now one of the proposed stars has shared a pretty blunt reaction to the whole idea. This particular individual hinted at a distinct lack of interest in the project. However, that doesn't necessarily mean they'd be opposed to it.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe's take on the Fantastic Four is the latest in a long line of generally ill-fated adaptations. So expectations are mixed, to say the least. But on the other hand, the studio also faces plenty of pressure to finally put out a take on this beloved comic book property that captures that sweet spot of critical and audience acclaim. With great pressure comes great claims, to the point where even heavy-hitters like The Boys are mocking the Fantastic Four rumors. They aren't the only ones questioning the seriousness of it all, either.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Killing Eve and Free Guy star Jodie Comer offered a slightly cryptic yet straightforward response to the idea that she may be in the running to play Sue Storm in the Fantastic Four movie. Since little has been officially confirmed regarding the film, fans and publications have latched onto casting rumors similar in a way comparable to those weird fish on the undersides of sharks. So, while Comer made sure not to call out the idea directly, she did offer a pretty clear nod to where things stand.

Jodie Comer in the movie Free Guy

"It's so funny because people come up to me — even friends and family — and they're like, 'Are you doing X, Y and Z?' And I'm like, 'No.'... I've always felt very clear on where I want to go, and some rumors that come up may not necessarily be something I'd be interested in right now."

While she never mentioned the Fantastic Four by name, the nature of the interview alluded to the upcoming project. So, she similarly kept things a bit coy while speaking about it. Along with certain other prominent rumors like the 3 big names reportedly in the running for Doctor Doom, Comer's alleged status as a frontrunner for Sue Storm is another pretty heavy one, so it's rather cut-and-dry what they're talking about. However, just because she's not particularly invested in the possibility, it doesn't mean she's against it either.

"But I'd never shoot them down because who knows where I'm going to be or what I might want to do in years to come. People change, their interests change. So it's always just fascinating, and sometimes, I'm like, 'Where did they come from?'"

Comer in Fantastic Four would be a pretty big get, even among the other casting claims. It would certainly be interesting to see her as Sue Storm playing opposite of Javier Bardem as Fantastic Four villain Galactus, or at least as opposite as a human-sized person can be when faced with a literal planet-eating colossus. A superhero could be a nice change of pace for Comer's already diverse career. So, if she's up for it, the studio would be lucky to have her.

After featuring in movies like The Last Duel and even a flashback role as Rey's mother in Star Wars Episode 9: The Rise of Skywalker, Comer is showing no signs of slowing down. So whether her next big project is Fantastic Four or something else entirely, it's clear there's plenty more where that came from. The MCU may or may not be in the cards, but she'll be putting on a darn good show either way.

Marvel Studios' Fantastic Four is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 2, 2025.
