Introduction
Jewelcrafting is a primary crafting profession in World of Warcraft. It was added in The Burning Crusade and expanded on further in Wrath of the Lich King (Wotlk) when they increased the level cap from 375 to 450. This expansion adds some new gems and recipes to further enhance a player's gear. Players who choose Jewelcrafting are an essential part of the game; they provide gems that can be placed into the sockets of high-level gear to improve a character's stats. They also are the only players able to equip 3 specific "Jeweler's Gems" that provide double the stats of normal gems.
It can be quite costly to level Jewelcrafting; the materials are only provided by chance from Mining and Prospecting Ores. It would be wise to select Mining as a second Primary Profession or have another character gather the materials and send them to the character with Jewelcrafting.
When choosing a race to level Jewelcrafting, remember that Draenei have a passive ability called Gemcutting. This provides them with +5 Jewelcrafting skill enabling all recipes to stay in the guaranteed skill-up bracket for 5 more levels. This is a great way to save gold by crafting earlier recipes with cheaper materials for 5 levels more.
This guide is meant to be a very efficient way to level Jewelcrafting to the skill cap of 450. Keep in mind that sometimes recipes may not increase the skill level (skill-up) if they are yellow or green. For this reason, you'll see the "approximately" symbol (~) used to convey when there is a possibility of not leveling up with that recipe and its required materials.

Jewelcrafting Prospecting Macro
Players can use the skill Prospect to consume 5 of the same Ore for a chance to find gems. This can sometimes be a way to make a profit or to save gold from buying gems directly.
If you have large amounts of Ore to Prospect create this macro and place it on your skill bar to quickly prospect any Ore in your inventory:
