The virtual reality publisher PlayWay and game developer SimulaM have teamed up to create a Christianity-themed virtual reality game. Sometime in 2020, players will be able to hop into the skin of the humble carpenter born in a manger, Jesus of Nazareth. Inspired by the New Testament of the Bible, I Am Jesus Christ will let players perform miracles, pray, and even fight the Devil in the desert.

I Am Jesus Christ takes players through the famous stories of the New Testament, with reference points and quotes that let players follow along in their Bibles. The game is inspired by the story of Jesus and covers the time of his Baptism until his death and Resurrection. The game is currently listed on Steam although it does not say for which platforms, and will definitely not be for future Xbox consoles. There is no set date for the release of the game but is said to be released sometime in 2020.

PlayWay is the publishing company behind such games as Cooking With Food SimulatorThief Simulator VR, and Car Mechanic SimulatorThe company has led the way to very realistic looking and feeling games. I Am Jesus Christ is said to be a "realistic simulator game" that will be open world and allow players to interact with strangers by healing the sick and feeding the hungry.

There is also a small, very minimal description, that explains that gamers will be able to battle with Satan in the desert. Since the description is so minute and is not featured in the trailer, it is unclear just how much this battle will depict. However, it is likely that it will follow the story where Jesus fasts in the desert for 40 days and 40 nights before his Crucifixion and is tempted by the Devil to take the easy way out and align with him.

In the trailer released yesterday, PlayWay reveals that players will be able to pray in order to refresh what appears to be their miracle meter, allowing Jesus to charge up and heal people. In I Am Jesus Christ gamers will also be able to cast out demons and relive iconic moments like washing the feet of sinners. Those wanting to try all this out for themselves will have to wait to learn which VR headsets are supported.

I Am Jesus Christ will be available sometime in 2020 on Steam.
