Fanart of Jenna Ortega casts her as a classic Batman: Mask of the Phantasm villain that has yet to receive the spotlight in live action, or even in the comics for that matter. Ortega is an interesting choice, which would actually bring her closer to ghost face, at least from an aesthetic standpoint, than her Scream character Tara Carpenter would like.

For Ortega, this may be the next best thing in playing a Batman villain similar to who she has been running from and so scared of in Scream 5 and Scream 6. As a result, she has first-hand knowledge of how terrifying a mysterious person in a dark hooded cloak, scary mask, and blade can be. The actor has also shown range in her portrayal of Wednesday Adams, which rings especially true for what this fan-art of Ortega as this well-known but underrated Batman villain from the animated series suggests.

Instagram User m.design34 created a Suicide Squad concept that showcases Ortega as Andrea Beaumont, the phantasm from Batman Mask of the Phantasm. The roster also includes lesser known characters, such as Rainbow Creature, Ambush Bug, Ashton Kutcher as Killer Moth, 50% Chad, and Neil Patrick Harris as Condiment King. Ortega is no stranger to horror and creepy characters, but for the most part, she has played the victim protagonist in horror movies. It may be time for the actor to embrace the other side of horror, especially with having the talents to pull off complex characters like the phantasm.

Given how Scream 6 ended, it may be the perfect time for Ortega to take up the phantasm mantle. However, there are a few issues that would need to be addressed for this to happen. In Batman Mask of the Phantasm, Beaumont and Bruce Wayne were romantically involved before she decided to avenge her fathers' killer as the phantasm, which could present problems for Ortega, seeing as how the actor will be 21 by September. Robert Pattinson is 36, and even though his Batman is meant to be 30 years old, it’s still too much of an age difference for Ortega's Beaumont and Pattinson's Bruce Wayne to have had a romantic relationship, and the upcoming DCU Batman is said to be even older. There would have to be slight differences to the context of Beaumont and Bruce Wayne’s relationship for it to work in Reeves’s Batman verse.

Ortega is also 5’1, which isn’t exactly the most imposing force compared to Robert Pattinson, who is an entire foot taller. Even so, the fan art is convincing, and Ortega is comfortable with horror, lending herself naturally as a possible Batman villain in Gotham City. If not the phantasm, Joker still needs his Harley Quinn opposite a 30-year-old Barry Keoghan.

Batman: Mask of the Phantasm is available on HBO Max.
