Morbius' long and winding road to theaters now firmly appears to have taken its last detour, as Marvel's vampiric superhero film got a new poster that confirms its previously announced April release date.

The last of these delays was announced by Sony towards the start of the year when Morbius moved from January 28 to April 1, amidst a mixture of possible fears over the effects of the pandemic in movie theater turnout and speculation that Sony wanted to let Spider-Man: No Way Home's momentum play out for longer. The latter definitely seems to have played out, as Spider-Man continues to generate massive revenue for the studio, though many will be intrigued to see whether Morbius somehow sheds a light on Peter Parker or Eddie Brock’s future.

Luckily, Jared Leto is here to appease fans’ needs, as the actor posted the new official Morbius poster on his Twitter account. As fans will see, the poster promptly states that Morbius will indeed be coming out on April Fools' day. The artwork prominently features Leto, who’s flanked by Tyrese Gibson (Simon Stroud), Matt Smith (Loxias Crown), Adria Arjona (Martine Bancroft), and Jared Harris' character, all standing below the red-eyed gaze of Michael Morbius’ vampire form.

Of course, this isn’t the first real preview of the film out there, as the Morbius trailers have showcased his powers to a great extent, while also confirming he exists in the same world as some version of Spider-Man. That’s hardly enough of a clue for what kind of plans Sony has for this particular branch of its Spider-Man universe. Still, Morbius could greatly impact Venom's world and how characters like Kraven are introduced in the future.

Just like the Venom sequel, Morbius features a rather short runtime, although it remains to be seen how that pairs up with what the more horror-minded trailers have teased compared to the comedic banter that takes the spotlight in the two Tom Hardy movies. After Spider-Man No Way Home's ending, there’s a big Spidey-shaped hole in Sony's pipeline given the uncertainty of Tom Holland's future as the friendly neighbourhood superhero and in what capacity he could remain tied to the MCU.

Actor Dakota Johnson was recently cast as Madame Web in yet another Spidey spinoff that could be setting up Sony eventually cutting ties with Disney. However, considering Spider-Man is a guaranteed hit, the possibility of parallel Spider-Verses existing on their own is not a far-fetched idea.

Morbius is scheduled to be released on April 1, 2022.
