It looks like the universe still wants more from the ragtag group of murderous misfits who saved the world in The Suicide Squad. After the surprisingly wonderful film wowed audiences last year, fans were quick to call for more content involving their favorite convicted killers. They got their wish in the form of the HBO Max series Peacemaker, but now, it seems as though this wasn't the only thing dredged up from the well of content.

Director James Gunn, who took the helm for The Suicide Squad and created the John Cena-led Peacemaker series, apparently has some new ideas for whoever happened to survive his bloodbath of a film. The Guardians of the Galaxy director has been enjoying a pretty lucrative decade, so it's not surprising to hear that he's got something else up his sleeve. But what exactly can fans expect to see?

Gunn confirmed his plans, albeit in a quick and detail-lacking answer when asked by Deadline. "We're working on something else now, another TV show that's connected to that universe," Gunn said, in response to a question about The Suicide Squad, "I can't quite say." This should almost not even be a surprise at this point, especially given the popularity of both The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker itself, of which Gunn is apparently perfectly aware. "There's a really good chance of that," he said when asked about a possible 2nd season of Peacemaker. "We're the biggest show in the world right now."

Polka Dot Man, Peacemaker, Bloodsport, and Ratcatcher II in The Suicide Squad

Gunn has made a name for himself as the creator of one big surprise after another. Few expected the popularity of Guardians of the Galaxy, and yet now he and the team are working on the 3rd and final installment of that beloved film series. When he was briefly fired from Marvel Studios after a bad faith campaign digging up his old tweets, he made a deal with DC to create The Suicide Squad, turning it into one of the best films of 2021. Now, he's got a hit show on HBO Max and another one on the way. It's probably time to stop being surprised by his successes.

But who should lead this new spinoff to The Suicide Squad? There are plenty of possibilities, of course. A natural choice would be Idris Elba's Bloodsport, who enjoyed the quasi-lead role in the film and captured the hearts of many. Same goes for Daniela Melchior as lovably endearing Ratcatcher 2. But a recent comment from Gunn on Twitter could be a clue. Back in December, he teased the possible return of one particular The Suicide Squad character, confirming that Nathan Fillion's TDK (The Detachable Kid) was actually still alive the last time audiences saw him.

So whether it centers on Fillion's character or somebody completely unexpected, another spinoff is just one more opportunity to enjoy that hilarious and slightly uncomfortable Gunn magic. He certainly knows how to get a reaction from crowds, that's for sure. Who else could make viewers sympathize with a man-eating shark person while still having the shark eat people on screen? Nobody, that's who.

Peacemaker airs new episodes Thursdays on HBO Max, where The Suicide Squad is also available.
