Something is right with the fandom for DC’s properties of late as they’ve been baying for the blood of newly minted DC honchos James Gunn and Peter Safran before the pair have gotten a chance to make or do a single real thing within the company. Months ahead of Gunn announcing the upcoming slate, fans have one again taken to the rumor mill, this time about the Green Lantern.Bleeding Cool has a roundup of all the latest on the Green Lantern including James Gunn’s resoundingly dismissive statement, “Fake,” at the fan news that he and Safran are scrapping the television project and tossing Greg Berlanti, the idea man behind the pitch, in the trash.Related:Everything That Is Currently Known About The State of James Gunn's DC UnionIt’s a strange world that fans occupied today, one in which comic book nerds can both be salivating to see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, James Gunn’s stunning conclusion to the trilogy he’s diligently created for the MCU, and simultaneously be wanting him burned at the stake for DC decisions he’s barely even been a part of. Such is the way of the world, however, and the latest salvo against the beleaguered director and newly minted studio chief is blame over the cancellation of Greg Berlanti’s upcoming Green Lantern TV project based on…well, nothing at all. Gunn responded to the non-news with one word: “Fake.”

Fans took to Twitter to express the news that not only had Berlanti’s new show—set to be another gem in the crown of the man behind the most functional iteration of a DC universe to date considering every TV series and crossover event he’s already been a part of—was not only scrapped but that Gunn and company were taking the character of John Stewart and using him in their upcoming slate. It makes sense, considering the character’s only had one not-great movie to begin with, but Gunn is also not a guy to rug-pull or step on toes if he can help it and Greg Berlanti’s feet are certainly safe.

Gunn has already taken to twitter previously to state that he and Safran’s new slate will be announced early next year, so all that can be really speculated about or said outright is who, for sure, it’s known will be and not be in the new DC universe moving ahead. So far people like Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck haven’t been asked to return as Superman and Batman respectively, and with Patty Jenkin’s Wonder Woman 3 take scrapped, word’s still out on Gal Gadot as well. John Cena is moving ahead with Peacemaker season 2 and Margot Robbie looks like a good fit to still play Harley Quinn. Beyond that, it’s anybody’s guess, but nothing worth getting a man like Gunn, already taking potshots from all sides of fandom, angry at them about.

Green Lantern is still in production.
