Since YouTube was created in 2004 it has become home to billions of channels around the world. From pioneers such as Ray William Johnson and Smosh to MrBeast, PewDiePie, and Dude Perfect, the platform has come a long way. The Google-owned site has grown so impactful that it even has its own dedicated award show, called the Streamy Awards, to honor content creators for their hard work and efforts.

Unfortunately, though YouTube has certainly helped shape internet culture, it does sometimes host controversial content. A recent video featuring the Irish YouTuber, Jacksepticeye, which was posted on TommyInnit's vlog channel, has been making the rounds on Twitter for this very reason. The statements that are being debated were made in regard to MrBeast, another popular YouTuber who is currently the second most-subscribed channel on the site.

Jacksepticeye Suggests MrBeast "Ruined" YouTube

Jacksepticeye and TommyInnit-2

Jacksepticeye is one of the biggest names on YouTube as well and has been uploading to his channel since 2012. He initially rose to prominence for his gaming videos and Irish personality, though a shoutout from PewDiePie is what eventually helped boost his name into the mainstream spotlight. Interestingly, MrBeast and Jacksepticeye are both friends of PewDiePie, which is what makes the alleged feud between the two rather shocking.

The video being circulated is titled "Taking a Lie Detector Test AGAIN..." The clip that's gathering the most attention is Jacksepticeye's answer to the question "Do you like MrBeast?" To some people's surprise, he answers "no" which is confirmed by the polygraph to be a truthful statement.

The follow-up question to this was "Do you think MrBeast ruined YouTube?" which received a yes. Jacksepticeye explained his perspective, citing that since MrBeast began making content YouTube became more about "money and popularity than it did about having fun." He added that if MrBeast had fun making his videos, "they would be longer." After the clip began to trend on Twitter, MrBeast took to his page to respond to the criticism.

In a now-deleted Tweet, MrBeast replied by saying that the clip was "insanely disrespectful." He expressed confusion as to how he "ruined YouTube" by making content that he felt was inspiring kids. The third paragraph included a remark that some people interpreted as insulting as he added, "...there is so much I could say about [Jacksepticeye's] content, but I'll just take the punches and be the bigger man."

Following this, some fans of Jacksepticeye wondered how writing this was being "the bigger man." However, others rushed to the replies to convince MrBeast that the comments were more about how his content changed the culture of YouTube and weren't meant to be an attack on his character. MrBeast's community didn't seem convinced, as they asked what was wrong with pulling in money to help others.

As such, the comments are filled with people agreeing with both sides, with some claiming that MrBeast was the first of his kind as he figured out the algorithm and maximized it for financial gain. This saw many other people trying to follow in the channel's footsteps. On the other hand, one user, dyzaaster, wrote they thought it was important Jacksepticeye shed light on the fact that YouTube went from "nerds having fun" to "let's make as much money as we can off these videos."

The complicated matter is still an ongoing discussion for some, but fortunately, it seems that Jacksepticeye and MrBeast have settled the matter. MrBeast posted "We messaged, we're Gucci now" to which Jacksepticeye added a thumbs-up emoji. Of course, MrBeast is no stranger to criticism, and this likely won't be the final time he will feel the need to defend his actions on YouTube.
