Jack Black casts himself as Superman in a hilarious video that showcases the actor’s take on the character. With James Gunn's DCU on the horizon, the question on fans' minds is who the next Superman will be, but if Black has his way, audiences may have the answer.

Even though Gunn says he didn’t fire Henry Cavill from the Superman role, further conveying that he didn’t hire Cavill for Superman: Legacy, this seems questionable considering Man of Steel 2 was reportedly in the works before Gunn and Peter Safran took over at DC Studios. This has created controversy among fans, but thankfully, Black lightens the mood in a video posted by the actor that shows Black as the next Superman.

The video skit opens with the actor being woken up by a phone call from what's supposed to be Gunn on the other line, in a black-and-white filter, expressing his desire to see Black as the next Superman. After some reluctance, Black eventually accepts, prompting him to get off his lounge chair and reveal himself in a Superman suit. The suit seems to be a version of either Cavill's Superman suit from Man of Steel or perhaps even Tyler Hoechlin's suit from Superman and Lois.

The black-and-white filter turns to color, and a comedic version of the John Williams Superman theme kicks in. Black is then shown flying through the air, shooting heat vision out of his eyes, and blowing a dandelion. The video ends with a behind-the-scenes look at the VFX of the skit, showing Black's father moving his cape from behind as the actor lays flat on a platform to simulate flying and the cape blowing in the wind.

Gunn replied to Black's Instagram video, sarcastically saying, “I thought we agreed to save this news for ComicCon.” Previously, Gunn debunked Superman's age, which was initially reported to be 25 years old. As a result, the upcoming actor to play Superman is speculated to be in their high 20s to mid-30s. Gunn expressed Cavill is still too old to play the character for his Superman film, and as a result, so is Black.

Fan art of Jack Black as Wolverine shows what the actor could look like playing another Superhero role, but whether the actor will at some point remains to be seen. Even so, the comedic and fun skit may indicate that the actor is willing and ready for Gunn's DCU.

Superman: Legacy is in development at DC Studios.
