The Korean Game Rating Board rates a PlayStation 4 and Xbox One version of Resident Evil 6, hinting that the game may be coming to current-generation consoles.

Resident Evil 6 is notorious for being the main series Resident Evil game with the poorest critical reception, abandoning the franchise's survival horror roots almost entirely in favor of being a third-person shooter. Despite a general lack of love for the game from critics and fans alike, there is now evidence that suggests that Resident Evil 6 could be making its way to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The Korean Game Rating Board has rated Resident Evil 6 for the aforementioned platforms, hinting that an announcement could be right around the corner.

Capcom has yet to officially confirm the existence of a current-gen Resident Evil 6 one way or another, so at this point, any talk about the game on PS4 or Xbox One is purely speculative. However, it wouldn't be all that surprising to see Capcom bring Resident Evil 6 to current-gen consoles, especially considering the company's promise to make game remasters a priority moving forward.

There has been a general lack of brand new Capcom game releases in recent years, as the company has switched gears to do just that – opting to release new titles at a less frequent rate, and re-releasing older games to fill in the gaps. So far, this strategy has proven quite fruitful for Capcom. Resident Evil HD Remaster broke digital sales records, whereas Resident Evil 6 was considered a financial disappointment at the time of its release.

At this point, if Resident Evil 6 does indeed come to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, that will mean that a decent chunk of Resident Evil titles will be available on current-gen systems. This includes Resident Evil HD Remaster, Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil 4 on Wii U, and the upcoming Resident Evil 2 remake. It seems as though Capcom is looking to have the entire Resident Evil franchise on current-gen, so it wouldn't be too surprising to see Resident Evil 5 and Code: Veronica X be remastered as well – though Resident Evil 3's outdated graphics means that Capcom would likely remake that game entirely, especially if the RE2 remake sells well.

Resident Evil 6 may have been heavily criticized when it released a few years back, but perhaps it can find new life on PS4 and Xbox One. We'll have to wait patiently for Capcom to confirm or deny the existence of the game, but for now, consider the new-gen Resident Evil 6 nothing more than a rumor at this juncture.

How do you feel about the possibility of Resident Evil 6 making its way to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One? Are you willing to buy the game again, or were you not a fan of it the first time around?

Resident Evil 6 is currently available for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.
