Initially released in July 2020, Marvel’s Iron Man VR was exclusive only to PlayStation VR. Now, the game is set to be released for the Meta Quest 2, and the release date is coming up quickly.

In a trailer posted by Meta this week, Iron Man is shown suiting up for action. There wasn’t gameplay shown in the 41-second trailer but did give a release date of November 3, 2022. Meta announced that the game was updated to fit the controllers of the Meta Quest. There were no details regarding graphical upgrades, however.

Upon its release in 2020, Marvel’s Iron Man VR received some rather mixed reviews. Critics mentioned that the missions were repetitive and had lengthy load times, but still had fun gameplay, especially while flying. The same comments about the PlayStation VR release should likely apply to the Meta Quest 2 version of the game.

This isn’t the first time that Iron Man has been a playable character in video games. From older arcade beat-em-ups to games tied into the Marvel Cinematic Universe standalone films (and, of course, Marvel's The Avengers), Iron Man is no stranger to gamers. Playing as Tony Stark in virtual reality has always been in high demand, though, and a new audience of gamers will be able to experience it for the first time in November.

The release of Marvel’s Iron Man VR is sure to satisfy some gamers, though there is still a demand for an open-world Iron Man game done properly. More than a decade ago, there were plans in the works that ultimately got scrapped. The developers of Just Cause were working on the game for two years before Disney and Marvel changed course.

Thankfully, a new single-player Iron Man game is in development that will bring Tony Stark to the open-world experience. Until then, fans of Iron Man, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and virtual reality games, in general, will find themselves filling the void with Marvel’s Iron Man VR. The price for the game has yet to be revealed, though fans can expect to shell out $39.99, as that’s the listed price on PlayStation VR.

As for what fans will need to play Marvel’s Iron Man VR, the 128GB version of the Meta Quest is now $399.99, while the 256GB version is $499.99. So while gamers won’t need to have Tony Stark levels of money to experience flying through his eyes, it’s still not going to be cheap this holiday season.

Iron Man VR is available now on PlayStation VR and releases on Meta Quest 2 on November 3, 2022.
